Make a mount off your cage. Mine is on the side but you could play around with the location until you find the point where your spare 36" will fit

Best place for that extra weight is back at the camp on the trailer with the spear parts. There is no time to change the tyre in the stage. And when you on club run tow strap is hocked to back ready to tow suzuki/fords etc.Tool box is for the lunch only :D

Hey Klem, have you read the rules lately around spare tyres? Have a look at rule 16.9.

Hi Darin correct me if im wrong but i thought rule 16.9 stated that the spare must be of the same size and secured behind cargo barrier,Nowhere does it say that it cant be removed prior to running a stage ,the same goes for a ground anchor ,(if you take them of and need them its either a long run back or DNF)
Sorry for the Tread hijack Ben

all good mate, i need to know this so i can make mods to either mount it propperly somewhere if i have to carry it while competing or if i can just leave it in the pits/dump it off before the stage starts and pick it up agin after??

16.9 The spare tyre must be of the same size as fitted to the vehicle and securely fastened behind the cargo
barrier.

it doesnt actualy state that you HAVE to have it on the vehicle to compete, just if it is there it has to be securly fasned behind the cargo barrier.

darin?? clear this up for me please mate??

Hi Ben Sorry mate but im wrong regarding the ground anchor that comes under rule 22.1.c compulsary equipment but as far as the tyre goes i cant find anywhere that it states it must be carried at all times ,as for Norwest we have already stated that you wont need a ground anchor(club class only)

Yes, 16.9 is one of those rules we probably need to tidy up as it doesn't specifically mention if a spare is needed or not.

The way I read it, the only requirements of a spare tyre is that it should be the same size as your other 4 tyres and it be securely fastened somewhere behind the cargo barrier. There's no mention of whether a spare is required or not, or if it has to be on the vehicle while competing in a stage. So ben, I would check with the event organiser (monstr) to see if he has any extra requirements, and if not you could pretty much do whatever you please as long as you comply with those 2 requirements in rule 16.9 ...at least that's the way i see it.

If anyone has any thoughts on 16.9, post up at http://www.4x4challenges.org.nz/forum, and we'll add it to the list of things to work on for the next version of the rules.

Oh and by the way, the trucks looking primo ben!

As far as the Norwest goes you will not be required to carry your spare while competing ,Just rember though if you get a flat and have time to change it if your support crew roll your spare past the start box that will be deemed outside assistance ,(stage Disqualification) it will be up to the driver/co driver to go get it .Cheers Steve

Are you talking just the diameter of the tyre? or diameter and the width?

Why should it matter what spare ur running as long as its smaller than 36.5 inches high and 13.5 wide?
