fuel cell

Post by Heath »

Anyone recomend someone who could make a fuel cell to take a vitara in tank pump? I figured that instead of buying a tank and then having the hassle of fitting an external pump (with all its own hassles such as air locks etc) maybe I should just use the suzuki one (spares then become easier to find too).

I am only after a 20 litre one that can be fitted in the rear of my vitara. Was looking at approx $250 for the plastic fuel cell, would that be enough for a custom tank or am I dreaming?

Dont want a boat tank as they still leave me with the hassle of an external pump.

performance metalworks in silverfdale make custom tanks. If it's quite small i can't see why it would be too expensive. Or a boat builder could make one

You may find a boat fuel tank suitable too but be carefull as most boat tanks have no baffles, the fuel cells I had had none and were all foam filled to slow fuel movement and prevent fuel washing away fron the pickup, I ended up having the cell modified to add an ice cream container sized addition for the fuel pickup to the bottom of the tank as with low fuel on fast corners (race car) the fuel ran out with about 3 litres still in it.

All pumps were external, a larger swirl pot would have helped too but I didn't want to keep running the lift pump dry and risk the two fuel rail pumps running dry.

You may have similar issues on angles and climbing, they may have better design's now too as that was 4 or 5 years ago the return lines fed in high up and the foam (in the bottom third of the tank) slowed the return of the fuel.
