Anyway, it's a Jeep thing - I wouldn't understand.

Even "Tractor" was originally a trade name.
Funny how nicknames become trade names. GP to Jeep, HMMWV to Hummer, pajero to pajero etc.

Jeez what a shame I missed this until now! OT - but saw the Mitsi Jeep reference - Don't be too tough on the Mitsi Jeeps though jeepsters, I owned three of those before my TJ (still have one) and I'd take a guess that Jeep'd be very proud to associate themselves with these things. I call them "Jeeps that work" and you'd struggle to find a tougher more capable vehicle straight out of the box. I couldn't break it in three hard years, winning club champs even, (Shiny class) but I've been able to find the weakness in anything else quite quickly.

Now my son in law knows where there's a whole shed full of brand new Russion military "Jeeps" in the north of Afghanistan and they even have in cab tyre pressure control. Any takers? Serious, he says they are the ONLY vehicles that can take the punishment over there and if they don't they're fixed with the whack of a big hammer.

If I can ever get my hands on one and bring it back here, I'll make sure you at least get a look at it Kiwi, count on it.

Sweet.
The military trucks from eastern europe and russia are awesome machines.
Apparently the russians have the best trucks because they have the worst roads.

I've done a fair few KMs on Russian roads, primarily in a Hilux or a Mitsi Canter ute.

Any links to pics of these things to get a feel for what they look like?

Don't have any photos, just his description of the big shed full of them. They are not actually for sale, but then everything is for sale ultimately. Especially if the Taliban is about to find them I reckon they'd sell them PDQ. One day I might be able to get one. cheers
