Re: safari diff oil
I just did mine a month ago. I used a American brand RS200 LSD oil and it used just under 3L. But you can buy it in 2L with other brands or 4L but the 2L is more than the 4L. so there is left overs. Yes they have the magnetic drain plug. Since I did that my LSD has been working perfectly.

Mine always whines. It comes out every year for inspection and service as does the front. My rear is a factory locker and has been rebuilt by a racegear maker, it still whines, just turn ya stereo up. I'm happy that it is just another quirky safari sound.

HI i always ran LS 140 in the rear of my GQ, Nissan recommend a heavier LSD oil as opposed to LS 90 that normally goes into Hilux,s etc, But lS 90 will also be fine in a GQ/GU lsd diff.

Re: safari diff oil
its all done now i used some case ih tractor oil with an additive
i did the front while i was at it that came out quite clean unlike the rear i will probably change the rear again after a decent drive
i did have a thought that maybe the pinion bearing is whats making the noise maybe?
as its only been doing it since i was towing another safari on a trailor and i was climbing a hill maybe the oil didnt lube the bearing at that time?

Grab the drive shaft were it bolts to diff and feel if theres any up/down movement(pinion may be allitle loose)
