7-8 March 2009

Post by Sadam_Husain »

Shit I've started these 2 weeks in a row

Waterblasted half of Rallywoods off the truck and turned the front lawn into the usual mess of mud, vegetation and crap, ripped the back wheel off and undid thousands of beadlock bolts and fixed the punture, pumped it back up and it seems to be holding its air, took the U shaped bent draglink off and stuck an almost straight replacement one on, farked about with lots of wires for an hour and a half and now I have 3 indercators working

Did some shopping so I have bits I need to do some maintenance over the next couple of weeks (and cruiser stuff swap this weekend).... what an F'ing expensive start to the weekend. Oil, filters and brake pads for two vehicles and diff oil for another OMG!!!!

I was thinking of doing diff oil in the hilux too but glad I did not grab some more containers. VISA gets fly buys so will need to see what nice home things we can get with the points just collected :)

open road drivin them big 37,s sucks the life out of it. off road is never really a problem. the vent is cut so cool air should run straight over the top tank of the radiator.

after fitting the 900 amp rated welding cable to the winch a few weeks ago and doing a trial "winch" that proceeded to kill my battery I treated myself to the biggest f&$()* off big 750 CCA battery i could fit into the battery tray.

off to retest the winch sunday

as a matter of interest, since ive now done the cables and battery should i look at upgrading the altinator (not even sure what amp the gen 1 2.5's had?) to a larger amp one or will the factory one be ok ..... barring in mind that the winch only gets used for self recovery and isnt on a club truck or anything.

on the way down to the heavy equipment expo in mystery creek on friday i stopped in at the place i had ordered my shocks to see what was happening they said they would ring me back so went and looked at machines then drove down to tokoroa was almost in tirau when i got a phone call saying my shocks had arrived too late to turn around now though so will grab them this week sometime
changed the oils in the diffs transfer case and the engine replaced the fluid in the diff lock operating circuits

so now basically got shocks to install brakes to bleed got to get my drag link off yoricks wagen and swap it back to mine he has had it on there for a few months and still hasn't got around to getting his one sorted   oh yeah got to organise the heater hoses and then it should be mobile

still have to sort out speedo and driveshaft loop for cert though

Hi Shane
Where is that track ? It looks interesting and would be good to go up.

That why I have a manual.

Its in hamner springs(hot wheels 4x4 park)its were they had the winch challange, lots of grade 2-3 tracks and a hand full of 4-5 tracks.its not a large area for a 4x4 park but we did have shit load of fun.

this is one of the tracks they used for the w/c(same track as above is much steeper than it looks),couldnt quite get to top, front slid to one side ended up on quite a angle side ways to bank.had a heap of fun.front locker would have helped.

Well headed to William and Caroline's place to help swap lots a parts over from one FJ to another.

The list of changes to do and we only managed to get the diff's swapped (semi floater to full floater) and the power steering pump and box removed from the donor, not bad really for someone that knows nothing about Toyyoddass.

Removed from donor
Image

Installing it in it's new home
Image

We had to remove the brake caliper brackets as well due to there being disk brakes all round, interesting to say the least... more grinding disks need, brake fluid, paint, gasket sealer and a hand full of other parts needed... oh and don't forget to get a welder while you are out so we can tack the brackets back on.... (ok so he borrowed one from a friend)

Thanks heaps for the beer, food and entertainment, Isla (spelling unsure) can't wait for the next one over there..!
