d21 terrano LSD identification.

Post by tgaguy1 »

Hi all. I want to purchase a d21 LSD rear diff head to fit to the front of my Patrol. There are numerous d21's being wrecked on TM; but I need a little information.
How can a seller who may or may not have any mechanical knowledge or skills identify if the diff head is an LSD, when the diff head is still installed in the vechile? Has the manufactures ID tag got a diff code that dictates a LSD is fitted?
I know that if you jack the rear and spin the wheel works as a method of identification; but I am trying to avoid this as the ability of the seller is an unknown.
Any Information from the Terrano guru's appreciated.

Thanks. Thats what I need. One more question. Does the "HG" indicate LSD and the "43" indicate the ratio? So If the code was "HG (with some other number)" it would still be LSD?

HG is the diff model and 43 is the ratio. I don't even know if Nissan did an open diff for the Terrano? The easiest way to test is to get them to jack up one wheel and try and turn it. If it can be turned with a fair bit of force then LSD if easy then open.
