Post by tallsam66 »

A round of the National Trials is being held at Mayfield on 15th March

Does anyone know anything about this.

Can spectators watch?

Where exactly is it being held?

Cheers forthe info Vince

I had a look at that 4x4trials website...would haveto be the most useless site ive been too for ages.
No map of where events are.
No info on spectator costs or even if allowed.

Its no wonder very few entries....
Even looked at the website of the club running the event...no info there either.

Good thing we have ORE to get the info.

dude, I would have to be the first to admit that the site is a little hard to use and its also not used much either, or at least to its full potential.

here is teh link to the entry form which has the event info at the bottom......................

http://www.4x4trials.co.nz/documents/Mi ... 202009.pdf

I have been competing in truck 403, but don't look out for it, coz it will be tucked away in a shed in welly

we only did nelson

the cost or going further south was going to be far more than either of us could afford

enjoy them while ya can

coz I doubt they will be back

not wanting to cause a stir, but when some of the north island competitors make the effort to venture south, it would be nice if some of the capable south island trucks made the effort to compete with them.

instead of having another event on the same weekend as the first trial

This was the first trials I've ever been too and I really enjoyed myself, great entertainment for not a lot of cash (for the spectator that is). Lots of fun watching the progress (or lack of)

noticed on here that there was a trial down invers way

which sux when the north island folks make the effort to travel across the ditch and the southerners can't make the effort to attend a trial in their own island, I know its a long way, but there was only 32 at nelson and only 3 of them were south island and a little over 20 at chch, dunno how many S.I. and only 13 entered for dunedin.

it really sux coz we were under the impression that the southern zone wanted to get more involved and this is not how ya do it.

never mind

doubt the boys will venture south again

It was a good day, my boys had a ball watching the trucks. Yes, looking at the programme, I didn't see many trucks from the south island competeing. What's with that, a real shame really.

you do need to be affiliated to the NZFWDA

cenitpedes will be fine

may wanna go on the trials website and check some of the other rules, especially regarding rollcage etc, but I think you'll be fine.

otherwise get in touch with an organisor (details on trials site) and they should be able to help ya out.

if ya have trouble getting hold of anyone, let me know and I'll give ya some numbers of Competition Committee people to ring and enquire.

cheers

if you know why, then you could tell us, save my ranting

I know theres the cost of the licence, but other than that, I can't see other reasons.

my rant is purely about the fact that we were under the impression the southern zone wanted the sport back in their neck of the woods and unfortunately nobody has supported it by competing.

It doesn't really matter too much coz theres remits in place to vote the zone out of the National Trials due to lack of support, so it will be highly doubtful if its ever seen down south again.

You guys wouldn't care too much though, coz you have your own comps that run great anyway, so it probably won't really be a loss.

It was just a shame to see a trial run at one end of the south island while another one was at the other end of the south island, and speaking to a few competitors, they would have preferred it if dunedin was first the chch then nelson as more of them would of made the trek across the ditch. the 12+ hour journey back up the island after 3 weeks of trialing put a few people off.

this is where some of you have been scared off from wot I understand

a comp drivers licence is $100, but.....................

if it is after 31st October, then it doubles

so unfortunately to do 1 trial, will cost ya $400, coz ya need one for the navi too, but the navi can get emergency ticket for $30, but only if ya act fast, so yeah 1 trial will cost ya $230 plus the entry fee, which is a bit steep and I wouldn't blame ya if ya just sat and watched this one.

Skid,

I have what a believe to be a reasonably competitive truck. I was really keen to enter it against the guys from the north to see how I would measure up.

When we have a triall down south the entry fee is somewhere between $20 and $30 with no licnences etc. as opposed to $400 odd dollars. We have guys entering old suzukis , hiluxs etc and having a ball of fun. I believe that is what the sport should be about guys getting out there and having some fun!

I hope you now understand why no-one from the south is entering. I approached the organisers of the Dunedin one to see if we could work out a compromise, but apparently there wasn't. :(

yeah I gotta sympathise with ya there.

normally our entry fes are $40 starting, the licence is $100 and thats for a season.

this year due to problems in the past years they bought in the late licence fee which as deterred a few people from competing, which is a shame.

everyones complaining like myself about the lack of SI entries, but nobody is prepared to drop licence fees etc etc as it will be a contradiction to thier stance up here.

Over the years the sport has evolved from standard backyard built trucks into what we have today where competitors aren't too phased about forking over close to $100K for somebody to build them a truck to compete in, and as we all know once the sport starts having that amount of money thrown at it, then rules start changing and things get stricter in the way its run.

which is a shame, coz then folks like yourself miss out and theres been a few trucks sold to southern guys lately, so we know theres capable vehicles down your way.

I think my rant is over.

I pretty much knew that the cost would be a major deterrent, but just wanted to see if there was any other reason.

I hope you guys all get out to dunedin this coming weekend and watch it, coz its a great sport for spectating as you all know.

If you know someone in the organising committee then maybe you could have a play at the end of the day, which with only 13 confirmed entries is going to be fairly early

who knows, maybe you may get excited and want to venture north for a round or two next season

cheers
