Welding stuff

Post by williamhamilton »

While doing some research on welding I came across a good site and soe examples of what I consider damn fine results.
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/show ... php?t=8123

I thought it may be of interest to folk here.

To keep up with my desire to learn from the smart folk here.. what welder do you use on your 4x4? Mig/Tig/Gas/Arc etc and model. Why have you choosen that particular style/model.

I would be looking for general welding around the property, body panels, trailer frames, I have idea of building a LoCost frame once hell freezes over and I get enough spare time.

I had considered Mig to be the better option as I sort of know how to drive one and have done so in the past. I like the idea of a Tig and especially after Taz01 suggested looking at the 3way ones on TradMe - Tig/Arc/Cutter. Any comments/suggestion from others?

hey taz i bought one of those welders in that link but a 160amp one and i have had nothing but trouble with it im at the stage that im going to sell on trademe for really cheap stating problems and buy a better one. they seem to have a problem with the wire feed even if you keep it clean. just my opinion and i would buy a 2nd hand one but a good brand i think thats the best way, was told to get one with a copper coil or whatever the thing is inside, as they can be repaired the alloy ones cant.cheers

140's pretty lightweight, see if ya can pick up a 200 amp or so.Now I'm not sayin ya cant weld anything with a 140, but its a lot easier to make a descent weld with a bit more burn
