i'd almost say locate a box off a 60 series as they mount on the frame like you have, but the pitman will go forward, so you can place the box back further out of the wheels way, clearing the springs possibly too?
i have a 60's box with a 70's pitman arm... these pics are of the 60's box with the std 60's pitman still on it...

that'd solve a few issues easily..

Re: fj40 project
The problem with doing all this is im tryin to do enough to get it drivable then carry on with mods bake the cake and eat at the same time.
so if i dont get things right the first time its just have to be changed down the track like im doin now
if i go with the box set up like nibs ill more or less be able to go straight from the stock axle to a 60 series widen super duper axle that is on the back burner? thoughts? ideas?

this chap has axles and a power steer box if need be...

Re: fj40 project
also the pitman arms off the 80 series cruiser is good to, thats what i have and works a treat, the bonus being they are all interchangable and fit the surfs sector shaft
or you could just go to jafa's web site and order a T.G pitman arm
SNR performance? i think?

hi all
lastest progress on the forty
p/s mounting is mocked up

things look heaps better but lookin at nibs and mncs ones the box sit above the axle dircetly but due to lack of space sua ive had to put the box forward and up. the lock is still the same or at least on the axle it is the box goes further than the axle will let it. i take that is suppose to happen?
new steering colum made just have to fit up
brake lines sorted
shackles lengthen

Re: fj40 project
80 series is pretty flat, have a gander at my pics for an idea, or you can buy one off JAFFA

Re: fj40 project
hae guys need a bit of advice on this
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/ ... ics005.jpg
managed to get nyself into all sorts of trouble when i was stuffin round with the surf p/s boxi cut into the cross member and now that i dont need the plate there it leaves a massive hole and it weakens the whole front end i reckon ive got two options weld a plate over it and risk it cracking under flex or devise a bracket to clamp the cross member to the frame rail
any comments and suggestions

Re: fj40 project
weld a piece of 100x100 6mm angle into the corner, that will solve it
