so what jeep dose everyone like the most i will say i like the TJ most but i would say that i own one :lol: but other than that i would have to say the old 1942 willys jeep i learnt to 4wd in one at a scout camp in full army colours :D

TJ Rubicon - though they never were offered in RHD. This is for daily use and fun.

About 8 years ago I had a 79 mahiindra CJ5, rover V8, was awesome.
Only ever a trials vehicle/ river toy. bought it with the plan of putting back on the road but she was too far gone to fix up, and was too much fun to pull apart anyway.
miss the open top, with the burble of two straight pipes.
Father in Law has a mid 80s Cherokee, chev diesel V8, now that is a machine.

A willy's or a CJ rather have the Willy

They both have that bear bones feel of a vehical built to go places offroad same with tthe early landy's and the early cruisers 8) then again it just might be me wishing for my childhood, when these were the only choice if you wanted to go offroad
As for reality I'm now old enough (and possibly wiser :lol: ) to know a roof, limited cab noise, syncro gearboxes and road performance are all good things 8)

I have 3 Jeeps,
My favourite is my CJ7, v8 powered, with Teraflex coil kit, lockers and all the trimmings, (it was a feature in NZ4WD Mag a few years ago) if I could put spikes in the tyres it would climb trees!
However and sadly I am selling it, time to move on, (sorry already sold so don't bombard me with big $$$ offers) My off roader now is a Rover 90 TD5, lifted 50mm, lockers etc, good but not as good as the CJ7 in my view.
But I have ordered a new KJ Wrangler Rubicon so we will see how that goes, mind you, it will not be put to the true off road test for a while, but I will still have a smile on my face as I drive it to work every day!!
I skipped doing up a TJ wrangler as I think they are too softly built (sorry to TJ owners who may have a differing view, but I have seen most blow up as some stage!) and you need to spend big bucks to make them tough and waterproof enough for NZ conditions, Those little short suspension arms are a real issue too. Plus the CJ7 was a stronger built vehicle.

That should be JK Wrangler. KJ is a Cherokee I believe. Saw / test drove a 4dr variant, seems a bit underpowered with the current engine offerings. I'll wait for evolution to take place in a couple of years. If I keep dreaming, they might offer a V8 Hemi!!!!

And you are happy with buying a JK???? I guess they must have "toughened" it from a TJ somehow. Though seeing the underbely and the way things are put together on a JK, I can't really see it. Only time will tell. I am very happy with my TJ and depsite thinking about a JK, I will not be selling my TJ (its getting closer to a toy status every day).

Can you fellas either confirm or rubbish something for me.

Im having a little issue.

Tj, Yj, Xj and Zj all have the same/interchangable rims? (my rims came off a Zj which had been on a Yj, so i figure im good here)

The stud PCD being what? (i know what it is, ive visited numerous websites which support me, measured my own, but id like to hear what you guys think, there may be a variance im not aware of.)

I mixed my KJ and JK. As to how tough is the Wrangler Rubicon? well time will tell. Looking at the web site and looking at all the data coming from Jeep it should be a lot tougher than a stock TJ anyway. But as I say time will tell. There is not much aftermarket stuff for beefed up axles & diffs so that should tell us that stock running gear on the KJ is looking OK. Yes to a Hemi v8 too, it was talked about at concept stage so it may be an offering later on.

as to your question that is a tough one, I think they may well be interchangable, but not sure but I think theTJ, YJ were all the same pattern, but I think a different rim size, but that is only a best guess, someone else may have better info on that.

Hey, I am just having fun. But in all fairness you are comparing a Rubicon spec JK with a non-Rubicon spec TJ. TJ Rubicons never made it here. If they did, thats what I would have been driving around. You should only compare TJ Sahara with JK Sahara, in which case all TJ export Sahara/Renegade models came with a rear Dana 44 as a standard, but JK Sahara has a standard Dana 35 in the rear.

I love Jeeps in general. Don't get me wrong, but please do try to compare apples with apples.

As for XJ's questions, stud patterns are as follows (afaik):

5 on 4.5" bolt pattern - Jeep XJ, YJ, TJ, ZJ, and KJ
5 on 5.5" bolt pattern - Jeep CJ
5 on 127mm - for WJ
5 on 5" - for new Jeep JK

May be you can call the friendly Jeep dealer and ask them to confirm this info as well.

I think the same way TJ the KJ rubicon will be very different to the standard TJ sport i have read in a jeep mag i get from the states that the KJ sport is much the same as the TJ sport but with better onroad handling and a smother motor in the petrol V6 but has a lot of plastic bits :? and parts are lookin very expencive but this is the norm with all new models :roll: all in all this was all sad about the TJ when it came out everyone with a CJ or YJ would say it wont make it so just think all you KJ owners or to be owners in about 10 years you will be sayin the same about a new model

cheers TJ, chap has blacklisted me on Trademe. I told em they (ZJ,XJ,TJ, YJ) were all the same in response to him refuting they were 114.3m on the TJ as an answer to another persons question. Told me I was talking bullshit. I'll direct him here, and to other websites that confirm this.

Sure is, thats why you drive the real 4wd and not a copy made by others in Japan or UK!!!! There are a few things which are metric on a TJ, but stud pattern is definitely not one of them.

whoops.... should have read 114.3 mm not "m". Clown refuted they were 114.3 (which is 4.5inches), but couldnt tell me what they were. Copped some abuse, as did two others who tried to help/correct em, stooooopid thing is that i was going to buy the damn spacers, but wont be now.
Same dude does have some nice looking 32 x 15's for sale too, which might well fit nice on the cherokee.... ah well.....

Heres a question though, will/would spacers affect loading on the front axle any differently to an offset rim.? Im getting rub on the inside of my tyres on the swaybar link mounting (when full locked) and need to get them away a touch. Never had this problem on my other Cherokee, or the CJ5 i had moons ago.....

Whether you change rim offset or put spacers, you are changing your track width. This may lead to the need of getting it certified as I believe only 25mm track width increase is allowed without certification.

What you can do to avoid contact at full lock is to use a simple washer behind the steering stop bolt. This will make your tyres turn a fraction less than what they do now. TJs have a similar problem with lower control arms with wider tyres. This way you are not fouling your track width or loading on axles/bearings. I can send you a photo of what it looks like or you can do a search on the net for steering stop adjustment.

As for the guy on Trademe, I recently had to explain somebody else that a 1998 Wrangler came with a 3 speed auto transmission (and not a 4 speed one). The person was adamant that it was a 4 speed (after driving all these years).

hey TJ..... all i really need is about 5mm, so the 30mm would have been overkill anyway. I'm still awaiting a quote for some offset rims, and i think theyre going to come in fairly cheep anyway. Im figuring 10mm spacers should be able to be sourced economically too.

I dont really want to go tutu-ing with steering components too much. Im quite happy screwing with suspension, but steering components give me the shits.

Anyway, i still rate me old CJ5, 304 AMC donk (which was bloody expensive/impossible to get AMC parts for, but the same Ford components were cheap!!!). Went to a wrecker once to get an exhaust flange, asked me what it was off, told him, just shook his head. Went outside, unbolted the thing, took the buggered one in and asked for him to go through his ford parts...... HELLOOOOO

The 3 speed toploader took a bit of wrestling........... but hell it was fun in the West Aus Desert!!! Lotsa fond memories of that waka. sold it for 4k back in 1994.(duh) Should really have bought it back with me.

Hey the part I am talking about will be worth like 2 cents (a couple of washers) and they will give you that extra few mms. You are not really playing with the steering component this way.
