33's or 35's what a question

Post by mudmike »

Now I've done my diff ratio's, it is a 13.5% change, the tyre difference to 33's is a 11.5% change and 35's are an 18% change.
So 33's and I crawl a bit better or 35's a bit under driven but then it's 35's :D .
I'm looking at kumho kl71's on sale till end of the month or stay with the sumitomo's I've already got. and have had a good run from them.
what do you guys think?
thanks

Those Kumho's KL71's are a bloody good allround tyre in my opinion. I am really thinking hard about them a 2nd set so my silverstones go a bit further. I had one of the first set of 33's and loved them.

what trucks it going on. i run 35's on a swb safari and goes well. thought about ratio change but i turned the idle down to about 500rpm and it crawls nice on steep down hills without getting out of hand now. i also run 33's on my landrover 109. i havent even lifted the rover and the 33's give it more clearance under the diffs than the 35's do on my safari!!

but as mudlva says bigger the better!!

It's going on a kzj78 prado, so 8" toyota diffs. 3ltr 1kzte oil burner, so thats why I was wondering about how much it will struggle with the bigger rubber.

i would say the prado has enough grunt, but from what i gather about them is that the running gear isnt as strong as it should be. i guess when you suspension lift an IFS vehicle it changes all the front geometry. hopefully someone on here who has done the lift and put larger tires on can point you in the right direction. i would say get some decent 33's like some simex or silverstones or those kumos your looking at, they look quite aggressive for an MT type tire.

A couple of my friends have 35s on a prados. They struggled on 4.3 diffs so changed to 4.8s and are fine now and don't run out power.
one runs 35x11.5 Extreme treekers and the other runs 35x12.5 Maxis

True, but the Prado in question (KZJ78) is solid axle in the front.

What ratio are you running mudmike? I have 4.5s in the Surf, with a set of 4.8s ready to go in, which with 33s should give me almost stock gearing.
