Toyota LSD's - are they rubbish?

Post by funkyflynz »

I was reading on an aussie 4wd forum that the toyoat LSD's only last a few 1000 kms, then after that are pretty much useless, certainly in my 216km hilux the LSD is either worn or not working.

Was thinking about putting a new LSD center in but now im thinking it mite just be a waste of money.

I have had no trouble with mine but you need to run the right oil in it or the clutch plates will all heat up and crap out

for the price, compared to a locker, they are good, i can dig a hole with both rears every time with mine, ya need pretty even weight distribution over both rears for them to work well, so work well when climbing etc, gets ya further, can pick them up for 2-$300. But yea nothings a sgood as a locker

By the time ya spend 4-600 on a pair of second hand lsd's, money for the right oil, you could have bought one autolocker, and be twice as capable :D

Nope no reply from TG yet

Its cheaper to buy an ARB her in NZ than to get one in from the US. Our buy price from TG is fawk all cheaper then retail, then ya gotta ship it, pay gst, duty etc. Obviously TG dont get theirs from ARB at a very good price, hence our dealer price is no good.
