surf engine swap

just found this site while searching for a replacement engine for my dead 2.4 diesel. after reading some of the conversion stories i think a better engine than the 2.4 should go in. the supra sounds like the go-are the celica or crisida engines similar. is enyone doing a bellhousing conversion. my surf is auto-can i fit a clutch pedal in to convert to a manual surf box. :?:

any help would be good

This link is a very good write up of one conversion in progress and the parts needed to do a leaf spring install too.

Here is one on the engine swap only most suggest a body lift to fit it properley. This is a older set of instructions and you may notice some differences between the two because of this.

getting the whole car is the answer to most of the issues

and everyone loves the wireing loom :lol:

It depends on what you are looking for in the engine swap.

...and STILL in progress... *sigh* but hey, its nearly done

Just a little barwork, disc brakes and cert hopefully this week... Still, the supra conversion is all done and running.

Who is this "most" guy??? There is no need to do a body lift unless you have an IFS truck, and thats only to fit the engine over the IFS diff. IF you don't do the body lift you can't close the bonnet... The body lift on anything else is a "not needed". "Most" should already know that

The bellhousing is the key... get one of those first, or get a 5-speed supra before you start. Cressidas are all auto, and the loom is different, but as long as you have a manual bellhousing then you are good to go.

Alternatively, I think from memory you can use your auto straight to the cressida or auto Supra engine... but you have to set up a manual gearchange switch as the supra and cressida computers don't interface to the Hilux auto.
