Weekend jobs
Hey guys I have two fix ups to do on my 89 Nissan SWB 4.2 this weekend. The first is replace a cover seal on the injector pump and the second is new front axel seals. Have read some info on the site about both but any pointers anyone can offer would be useful. Thanks in advance.

Re: Weekend jobs
Which cover seal are you refering too? As for the axle seals, the hardest part is finding something to pull them out with! After trying every tool i could think of, and trying all round town to find a slide hammer, i ended up using a mini crowbar

Re: Weekend jobs
Mate don't tell me that. The manual pictures look easy!! Just hold them and pull. As far as the pump goes its the top cover the throttle linkage goes down through. Thanks its called the govenor cover?

F**k are you n for a surprise, I used a mini crowbar too, but be careful not to score the housing. be careful you get it right first time putting the replacements in too, I learnt the hard way.

rain, hail, sleet or snow, we go!
Re: Weekend jobs
Hmm looks like I need to buy a crowbar? Was worried about fitting them given Nissan charged me $60 bucks a seal!! Whats the best way to get leverage to pull the axels?

Re: Weekend jobs
Sorry....Is that for pulling the axels or fitting the seals?
Re: Weekend jobs
the axles will come out no problems, Its the seals which are difficult.

Re: Weekend jobs
Cool thanks dude. Maybe could make one up out of a bit of flat?? Z shape, big one end to hit outwards with a hammer and short like a screwdriver tip at the other to get behind the seal??
Re: Weekend jobs

Re: Weekend jobs
Yeah I'd read other posts saying they were round that price but the shops I spoke to all said I needed to bring in the old seal so they could match it. Did not want my truck off right through easter. Repco said $40 but they did'nt know if the seal they had was the right one and had to get it in.
Re: Weekend jobs
Fairy nuff. Repco actually found one? The guy didnt even know what i was talking about when i asked for one lol

Re: Weekend jobs
Well yeah they said they had one but the guy did not really know. Kept talking about the transfer case seal??? Anyway got to work today and replaced the injection pump seal plus did both axel seals. Pump was a P%$#K but the axel seals messy but not bad. Thanks for the heads up on the seals being tight to get out. Made myself a jig and they popped out easy. No more leaks. Very happy.

Re: Weekend jobs
yeah when i asked, the guy asked me if i wanted a rear main seal, then a transfer case seal, then something else.. i was like mate your getting further away from the front axle every time
. then he got someone else, who proceeded to tell me they could only get a whole swivel kit for $576.. i told him i could buy a whole front axle for that and left

I'm sure if I had a WRX F#$%kin GTX super fry heat pump they'd have all the goods. Oh well got my truck seals in and I'm a happy camper.
