4wd procedure

Post by flyingbrick »

Not sure if ive asked this.. it is possibly the most stupid question ever tho.

How do you all get your safari into 4wd. Mines an Auto and with the motor running and the trans in neutral i have a 50-50% success rate. It'll go into 4H fine but then will stop when going into 4L (asif the gears are not meshing) and then any attempt to move the lever forwards or backwards after this will result in gears grinding.

Sometimes its fine.. sometimes its not. Its asif my neutral is kinda not being neutral enough.

Any ideas? sometimes its no issue- sometimes i have to turn the engine off- slot it into 4wd and then restart :(

Taking out is the reverse of putting in??, do you need to reverse a bit to unlock the hubs? ( I had to with my Zuk)

Don't shift like a nana and you'll be fine. I can shift from low to high on the go as long as you do it fast and hard it doesn't make to much noise!!!!
Seriously though, just put it in neutral and then push it though firmly. If you pussy around, that is when it will get caught in between and that is when it gets really hard to get into gear. If that happens then turn it off or get really rough!
I've only replaced the transfer case once in my truck, which is less than every other part of the truck so they are pretty tough.

So just harden up and treat it like a truck not a rice racer!

Thought i'd update this.

Yeah oit was me being too limp wristed

A good firm yank untill it goes in is all it needs. Did not have the problem once today :-D even threw it back a few times while moving hahahaha.

Broke my mud virginity today 8) was very surprised by how capable the safari is even with stock suspension and 31" muds. Had atleast one very close call that i can think of- swamped out the foot wells  and got a few dents here and there.. but overall
