I've done heaps of reasonably long winches with mine (on the Safari (yes, 12v) and have never had a problem with it running out of juice or putting any obvious strain on the electrical system. I do have an Optima 800CCA Red Top battery though (single one) which is awesome.

I was able to winch my truck out of the river when I flooded it without the engine running. That was about a 15m winch that was putting some serious strain on the winch and it came all the way out with just enough juice to turn the engine over afterwards.

When I had mine on my old surf it would stall the truck when under load so you had to rev the guts out of the truck. Was going to try sort it out but only used it a couple of times before i sold the truck. Would like to have know what the problem was, probably a combination or average alternator cheap cables and not great battery (battery wasnt bad just not really good)
