Maxxis Buckshot

Post by Petemcc »

looking at getting a set of these second hand and was wondering what ppl thought of them. any idea what they retail for normaly in 33X12.5. at the moment i have khumo adventurer mts. I do alot of drving on road and want a tyre that will wear ok yet still go well off road. my current tyres seem quite good, though tread is getting down abit now..

cheers Pete

apparently they are diabolical on the road... noisy and fast-wearing...

Goodyear MT/Rs are the way to go. Either that or BFG muds.

Get a few prices then go use the Tonys Tyre Service best price guarantee... or find out what it would cost to get them shipped down from Warren at 4WD Bits (just make sure you have a price for fitting/balancing from a local shop first... apparently some 4WD shops aren't very friendly about providing that service if they didn't sell you the tyres...)

If you're definitely looking second hand then you're going to end up with hand-me-downs that will be half-worn... I have a set of 4 35" BFG muds 1/2 gone on alloy rims that will be $650. In 33's I'm not sure... they are really popular so when they come up, they tend to go again really fast.

hi, i just bought a set of 31 10.5 maxxis buckshots. Was told i would get at least 60'000 k on the road which i thought was a bit over the top. mayb more like 40-50. Have done a few 1000 ks and they're not too noisy on the road and handle as good as the a/t's i had on before. Also they seem to hold on forever in the mud. I paid $760 for 4 fitted and ballanced about a month ago. Went through road rubber tyres in sockburn the guys there where pretty good to deal with.

yer i brought 33inch buckshots not that long ago, they cost me $240 each, have two sets of wheels so i don't have to use them on the road all the time, just a bit of a hassle putting them on and takin them off all the time, oh well it has to be done,

i have a couple of chums running the buckshots and they swear by them. both have got 31s but looking to upgrade to 33s when the time comes. one chap drives to dunedin and other southern areas a lot and has never complained about the noise or handling quirks, either in mud or on the tarmac.. for value for money, they seem to love them..

just my 2c thrown in.. :D

I ran buckshots, and did 40k on them, and they would've gone for another 20-30, but I hated them.
Sidewalls are weak, and more exposed than my current MTR's, off road they are average for a M/T, and can be a little dodgy in the wet on tarmac.

I ran 33's, and the MTR's only cost me $15/tyre more than I paid for the buckshots. Wouldn't go back to them.

I thought they were around the 16-18mm, but you may find info on the web, or ring the local dealer if you want to double check.
