onboard air using A/C compressor
onboard air using A/C compressor
Ok guys.
I have a 92 ln130 surf. My air conditioning and heater are a bit poked, so i was hoping to use the A/C compressor as an onboard air option.
My question is has anyone in welly done it? Do you need to still need to run a tank? and is the factory a/c compressor sufficient?
any help would be good!

Yep, I have onboard air/endless air what ever you want to call it, and you don't need to run a tank but if you do you only need to have a small bottle.
If you need a hand send me a PM and I can assist you.

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
cheers dude, PM sent.
Will provide refreshment for assistance!
by using the a/c compressor, whats the performance like...is it worth the conversion?

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
I can pump up my tyres and two other trucks tyres in the time it would take you to pump up your own with a supercheap one... worth it for me anyways

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
sounds like a plan then!

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
could you run through what the kit includes? something to put oil into the air and then something to remove the oil from the air before it gets to te tires?
phone Ross Bolus (secretary of the BOP club) He'll save you.

Kinda like that, when I get the chance I will take photo's and post them up.. and if it's not before helping Thirsty6 you will get a step by step version of it.

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
a suggestion for a little tank go to a transport supply place and get one of the little tanks they have their they cost peanuts and already have all the screw in points ready for any fittings etc

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
awesome
do you run some kinda pressure relief valve? wouldnt want it forcing air into a tank with no safety

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
Pressure release valuve... no it's a cut off switch, like a standard compressor on at 70 PSI and off at either 100 or 120 PSI depends what one you buy.

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
This is basically the set-up I will be using on my truck when I get around to it, without the oiler and catcher as my AC has a sump.

Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
I would definitely be interested too. Have been wanting to do this with the jeep for some time but have had no idea of budget required before getting started.
And cost to get A/C emptied etc.
When are you planning on doing this, wouldn't mind popping around to watch/help/brew the coffee (or beer)
Cheers
Ian

is this the whole job or just the relief part

if you supply all the bits you can use my 80 as the test mule, its aircon is empty , just like mercutio says it magically dissappears. so be more than happy to let you hook up air for my 80

dunno if it will ever get used other than to blow the diesel line out

but all the same it will be cool to have it

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
no way!!!
A decent automotive A/C company will degas for free!
They re-use the gas for fault finding other customers cars.
This reminds me of my old supra I decided to de-gas the system myself. found a pipe at the front of the car and traced it quickly back to the AC pump.... put some pliers on, looked the other way and squeezed.
there was no hiss and instead pissed power steering fluid all over the floor.
didn't realize the pipes kinda crossed over and went different ways.

Total cost would be about $100ish, this is not including a AC pump if you have to get one.. this is for the cut off switch, air line, fittings for air line, hose clips and water trap. Will need hacksaw and two spanners some other tools.

Re: onboard air using A/C compressor
sweet...thats what i thaught....cheaper than a new new air compressor!
just hope my a/c pump isnt knackered!...

well ya better make sure wgtntardbe is there
coz after tonight he is a real tool

can ya run it without the cut off switch ??
I only ask coz my switch in the 80 when ya turn it on, the aircon will bring the revs up about 500rpm, so if ya could run it manually and then turn it off, then that would be fine for me, do ya need a reservoir tank also or just run it straight off the pump ??

Best to have the switch, can be done without it but not best too... also no, you don't need a tank but can if you want to.
