High Pinion Diff's - whats out there ?

Post by Rotazuk »

Ok , read the thread on IFS suspension and they talk about the pajero having a high pinion front diff and was interested to note that . So then I wondered what else is out there in high pinion and since I know buuger all about other models though I would post up a question so people can add to it . If you know of a hp diff post up what its out of and the ring gear size so we can get an idea of how big/strong it is .

I deal with weedy suzuki stuff so will start

Samurai coil front - 7.0" ring - very weak . 22 spline :(

Pajero Gen 2+ front 8.0"

+ Jimny... probably the same dimensions = very weak :(
And to attempt to swap an earlier Suzuki diff head you need to completely revise the steering linkages

Isn't the coil over Prado a high pinion also?

Nice....
A factory option on ‘93-97 Landcruiser FZJ-80's is a hi-pinion electric locking front differential.

Paj 2.5D and 3.0 petrol have H/P 7.5"
Paj 2.8D and 3.5 petrol have H/P 8.0"

78/79/80 series cruisers and prado's (solid axle) have 8.0" H/P

IFS prado's and 185 series surf's have 7.5" H/P

jeep cherokee , dont know size but not rumoured to be very strong

Nissan safari ,huge! and very strong

Can't think of any more at the moment.
