2L not firing
ok well this started about 4 weeks ago really i moved the blizzy from the drive onto the verge so it was out of the way and when i started it that time it took ages and gave off a lot of white smoke from the exhaust that smelt very waxy.Roll on to last weekend and i decided that i should clean the truck and move it back up the drive, but when i went to start there was nothing it just turned over but didn't fire. (managed to flatten the battery in the process)
after asking a couple of guys we figured out that it was the glow plugs....so finally fitted the 4 new plugs this weekend and hooked up the car to jump start the blizzy once again nothing dunno if needed more omph with the jump start or could there be another niggle somewhere.
any help would be great guys
cheers steve

Re: 2L not firing
I would put straight power onto the glow plugs as it could be the relay craped out , if it starts then you know its the glow relay

nope didn't see them...lol there is a connection on the 3rd glow that leads away to another terminal which may be the one your talking about but that just stayed connected to said terminal while ribben was off.

I agree ... I found that because the glow plug controller keeps the power on the plugs when the engine is cold it's extra load on the battery often makes a cold engine hard to jump start.
Also how good are your Jumper cables ???

How old is your battery?
There the date should be on a sticker somewhere or stamped into a terminal, its recorded as a letter and number format, the letter is the month and the number is the year
ie: D9 = April 2009

Re: 2L not firing
Bugger it, hes home alone and has not replied himself so I'll embarass him then.
I cruised around to check out his issues. He had removed the battery for me, so I tested it and it seems its a dud, but I have got it on charge all the same, although I think TARDBE is being hopeful.
So I get a brand spanking new battery out of the truck, (which in all honesty is probably going to stay in TARDBE's wee truk) and throw it in.
TARDBE is cranking it over and it wont fire, so we get the trusty can of CRC out and give the old girl a helping hand.
It wants to go but it just wont fire.
Off comes the fuel line from the manual pump to the motor and skid starts pumping. About 2 mins later some diesel comes through from the tank. The hose goes back on and with a few more pumps and a little extra couple of squirts from our trusty can and she fires into life.
leave it running for a few minutes, turn it off and try again.
wouldn't ya know it, she goes. All fixed.
so the moral of the story is...............................
IF YOU ARE GOING TO BUY A 4WD WITH THE INTENTION OF USING IT, THEN IT HELPS IF YOU DO ACTUALLY USE IT
I would mention at this stage that I drink bourban TARDBE, but you have little cash and it seems you are going to have to come up with $125 anyways, so we'll just call a free embarrasment this time

Re: 2L not firing
Steve, unsure what the engine is in your truck but a real quick search of the net found a manual for the 2L-T. Is this the same as what you got?
http://pdftown.com/Toyota-2L-T-and-3L-Engine-Repair-Manual.html
6.6 MB. If so, download and learn about your engine mate.
