4.0 falcon one. moves a shit load of air. stay away from those super cheap ones as the fins are just useless compared to the car make ones.

Currently going through the decision on what fan to put with the rebuild.

Radiator is a 3 core one from a Mazda van and engine v6 ecotect holden.

Was going to just put a supercheap (or trademe) $120 16" fan. Reading this topic and others seems to be a preference for vn or similar fan over the generic fans. Question is how much better are say the vn fans over a generic fan??

We haven't put the radiator into a position yet so not worried at this stage about depth of fan.

Seems to also be a lot of different opinions on straight fin or curved?? Anythoughts?? Will need to track one down tomorrow as going into truck on friday.

generic fan lasted a week in my truck. generic fan was $100 and I replaced it with a $15 commodore one  only snag with the commie is the depth of the motor

i got my fans off a mercedes 300E and man do they move some air have to use the shroud with them to get the most out of them and they are pusher fans
i will admit they are untested on the road at the moment but seeing how they have performed so far i will be surprised if they don't work out

a electric fan with a good shroud thats covers all the radiator, i am running a honda Vigor radiator with 2 shrouded fans on it, seems to hold onto the temp ok, got ECOTEC v6 supercharged behind it, was told by a radiator place that it would not keep the motor cool.

cheers

I have EL Falcon (twin) fans mounted on an ali shroud so that the entire radiator gets air sucked through it.
At Rotorua last year the fans got jammed but wood floating into them and blew both fuses. Un blocked the fans, replaced the fuses and all good.
There certainly shift some air but I'm not sure about small children, as I try not to have any of them around!!!

Cheers for the advise. Have gone with a VN holden one. Figured we have the room under the bonnet so might as well fit the bigger fan that hopefully will last longer. Also only $40 from wrecker compared to $100 odd for the 16" trademe jobbies.

Also looking at replacing the electric fan on my Series 2a.

I'm assuming in the above posts the electric fan is mounted behind the radiator - i.e. between engine & radiator.

Will those above mentioned fans also work if they're mounted in front of the radiator - mine is front mounted and there's only a couple cm between engine & radiator. Or should I look at other models or can the electricity polarity be reversed and they'll happily run backwards??

Thanks.

the fan in my GQ is all broken and cracked round the hub..I reckon its from the blades hitting water last time i was out.. hmmn.

What do people do for 24v electric fans?

You'd probably find that the 12v commie ones would last a while on 24v ;-) might be an expensive test though...

lol.

It'd be cool. If you slowed one down- one would speed up.
