fuel filter placement on a fj

hi all, went on a great run on the we. at the end of the trip i died mid river. i had no fuel in the filter,

my qu is where should my fuel filter be before or after the fuel pump, ( as it was after and i sucked alot of shit thru after i stirred it up a bit !!

i put it down to stuffed fuel pum p and idled hm, but my new filter was chockar with gunk, and what would you clean the tank with

Personally i would run 2 fuel filters, one before the pump and one after the pump. As for cleaning the tank, ive heard our isoprop alcohol being used, have not done it myself, so dont take my word for it.
