Unified PRS channel at Red Rocks

Post by Gaz_n_Paj »

Each time I go around Red Rocks there is often someone requiring assisstance in some form or another. I will often travel to a stationary vehicle to see if they require assistance.
The other week I required assistance (ran out of diesel  ) and it took 40 minutes to get back up and running again.

If someone was stupid enough to go down next to the water line and get stuck time is a crutial thing, and lets be honest it isn't on their side. Although sometimes it maybe self inflicted, sometimes it is not (eg cvboot going.. alternator not spinning so no brake booster.. - or maybe they want help on an obsticle!?

The point I am trying to make is if there was a unified PRS channel for operation around there it could be for the greater good - maybe the same for Odlins road? Nothing extravagant, just a sign as you enter saying PRS%number% would be sufice, it would make sense to those that need to know which is all that matters.

Looking forward to your responses..

sounds like a good plan. probably channel 10 as that seems to be the prevelent channel for the welly area and most guys have their radios monitering it.

Most locals clubs that use PRS sit on ch 10 or 30, PRS Coverage is pretty good round red rocks but not guaranteed, in hilly places like odlins, rallywoods, aks's etc this very quickly deteoriates and shouldnt be relied on as emergency comms equipment. trouble also is if you are stuck chances are you won't be able to reach anyone with the measley 0.1-5w PRS output, and thats assuming someone is sitting on your ch and listening......

Theres also the other side of the coin when helping others as per the discussion here http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 77&start=0 I know of ORE members who have damaged their vehicles/equipment helping others round there.

I can pass the suggestion to the ranger round there if you want...?
