NZ Hilux Club Formation

Post by Polarice »

:D So who would be keen on helping set up a new club for NZ Hilux owners.
With the Hilux being one of the most sold utilities sold in NZ over the last 20 odd years I am surprised that there hasn't already been a Hilux Club.

The prevelance of this vehicle means that as a group we may be able to have a larger voice. The idea being getting Mr Joe Blogg farmer on board with the club if a dicount structure could be set up with Toyota NZ for members.

Ideas???

Give me a yell!

:D Well the Landrover Clubs includes Range Rovers.
Certainly. It would be sad not to.
Plus if we didn't include Surfs I would get in ALOT of trouble.....
My wife has a Surf!!!

Not to pur 'Ice' on the idea, but aren't there enough clubs out there?

Most 4WD clubs get good discounts already with most vendors, and who wants ANOTHER $20 club subscription in their mail every year?

I see why you'd want a club for them, I just don't see the need tho. Besides, you'll end up with all the little street-machine w$%#ers with lowered Lexus powered 2WD ones joining

I give ORE discounts... I guess Warren does too...

... I didn't mean to sound so negative on the club idea... just going through an anti-club stage :) But look at the ones that have gone before... how many landrovers in the ladrover clubs? How many nivas in the niva clubs?...

I just think clubs need to be founded on better ideas than "theres lots of them" cos theres lots of most models of 4WD...

i think single type clubs are not a great idea

but that is mainly because there aren't enough g wagen owners around willing to form a club :D :D

 I must have missed the haters in this thread? Someone point out the haters...

I *LOVE* Hiluxes and Surfs... I think anyone who knows me knows that... hell, look at my name on here. I still own 2 Toyotas... (one of which the wife won't let me SAS... I just don't get it... a SASd Altezza would be coooool :D)

I just don't think brand loyalty is a good reason to form a club, because someone will have a best mate with a Pajero who wants to come on the club trips... someone else will have a LandCruiser... someone with a Patrol will point out you have to let girls into working mens clubs so Girly Patrols should be allowed into real mens 4WD clubs... and so on...

Eventually you have a club thats called the Hilux Club, where 40% of the vehicles aren't even Toyota... And then all you have is another 4WD club.

Its not hating, its reality.

Welcome aboard by the way. What have you got?

I find it always very interesting to hear both the positive and the negative sides of every arguement.
That is one of the fundamentals of living in a democratic society.

It is very true that there are many clubs out there.
However, the Zukin and Landrover clubs tend to work very well because of the collective knowledge base of their members.
The Hilux has been one of the top selling comercial vehicles for over 21 years now.
As a result there are alot of people out there who know certain aspects on repair, modification and even purchasing which could be beneficial for other or prospective owners.
It could be said that a forum for all 4x4er's is fantastic. And this one is!
However, when trying to find information or advice it is often difficult to find true un-biased information due to a very broad range of opinions.
:( For example a question on suspension on a Hilux being answered by a Isuzu Irmischer owner saying that it is rubbish and nothing is good.

 The idea for the formation of a Hilux club is mostly to network like with like..... Birds of a feather..... sort of thing.

Discounts, Trips and other stuff are purely the icing on the cake.

The fact that there are so many Hilux's out there makes it silly to not try to link these people. If nothing else is acheived but helping someone save time or money buy presenting them with a tried and proven technique that works with a Hilux, then its worth setting up a Hilux club.

As for hybrids or mongrels, I guess the core would have to be a Hilux.
Eg. a Navara with a 3K Toyota engine would not cut the mustard!

Another thing I just thought of was the sheer number of Hilux's out there would mean club fees could be kept to a minimum! Plus by keeping the fee low, it would be an incentive for more farmers and tradesmen to join the knowledge base. The trade-off for them could be reduced maintenance costs by getting good unbiased advice.

It is sad to see that the great kiwi knock machine is alive and well!

Are you talking about an online club - not a "get together club"?
If so then do it.
Im the "owner" on the nzook (zukin) online club. Awesome for info/tips/tricks/parts and anything suzuki in NZ. There are the odd Zuk only get togethers and other zuk only related things that get thrown round. We have over 200 members and still growing.

I also belong to the NZ Land Rover Owners site as I have far too many Land Rovers and Rangies in the Family than I care to think about, again for the info and parts that you come across

Add to that I the troll the Zuk and Rover sections of outerlimits4x4.com and the Zuk and Rover sections on Difflock.com, I cant get enough of them all

Even with all these I come back to offroadexpress for a good over view of NZ 4wding.

Just set up the club and watch the members flood in. I dont know about the club discount thing though :? , is worth a crack, but most people can get trade discounts through their clubs (for those that belong to them) and/or mates in the auto industry

I saw your location, do you have anything to do with the ski fields?? if so can you get cheap ski gear for your fellow ORE members??

hilux club

As far as a base of knowledge, every thing i need to know i have had answered on here by members. Without having to pay any membership fee.
And just because you don't own a Toyota doesn't mean you don't know anything about them. All the varying opinions on ORE give great food for thought.

I really don't think anything can replace ORE in being a great place for ideas and contacts.

Thanks lilpigzuk for your feedback. Proof from the horses mouth that a make/model specific club works.

Small sideline for me is i used to own a fully original LJ50 complete with the 540cc 2-stroke!

Online forum for the Hilux Club would be part of the plan. It would also be nice for group get togethers from time to time. Much in the same way the Suzukis and Landrover's do.

Nothing beats face to face and where a picture says 1000 words, being there is everything. (Sorry about the Cliches)
So where the bloody hell are ya!! LOL

As for my location. Yes I work at Whakapapa, Mount Ruapehu.
But if you want great advice and the best equipment give skitradingpost.co.nz a yell.

I work the off season there before heading overseas for the northern winter. Andrew owns the business and is honest. He is also a great boot fitter. I am working there till the end of the week (11th June).

By the way if your in Auckland this weekend, we have booked the Civic Theatre for the release of Warren Millers new snow movie "Higher Ground"
Book through Tickertek. $28 i think.
If you don't want to see the movie, just come to see the snow expo downstairs in the wintergarden (that bit is free), where we have the reps from the brands we have in the shop.
I will be there too.

Check out my article in SNOW magazine about skiing for young children too.

Otherwise I am at the Whakapapa Snow School until late October

Cheers and Beers

Glad you think so... but if thats the case, why end your message with this:

Bloody hell, get a grip. Its an opinion, MY opinion. I answer a lot of posts on here, mainly with MY opinions (go figure  )... I figure people post on here to hear other peoples opinions... and opinions are like assholes, everyones got one... if you didn't want to hear other opinions then why post this at all?

I'm done on the subject, good luck with the club.

Just sayin you don't want to be too precious about an idea that you can't take both sides of the feedback about it.
