I find it always very interesting to hear both the positive and the negative sides of every arguement.
That is one of the fundamentals of living in a democratic society.
It is very true that there are many clubs out there.
However, the Zukin and Landrover clubs tend to work very well because of the collective knowledge base of their members.
The Hilux has been one of the top selling comercial vehicles for over 21 years now.
As a result there are alot of people out there who know certain aspects on repair, modification and even purchasing which could be beneficial for other or prospective owners.
It could be said that a forum for all 4x4er's is fantastic. And this one is!
However, when trying to find information or advice it is often difficult to find true un-biased information due to a very broad range of opinions.

For example a question on suspension on a Hilux being answered by a Isuzu Irmischer owner saying that it is rubbish and nothing is good.

The idea for the formation of a Hilux club is mostly to network like with like..... Birds of a feather..... sort of thing.
Discounts, Trips and other stuff are purely the icing on the cake.
The fact that there are so many Hilux's out there makes it silly to not try to link these people. If nothing else is acheived but helping someone save time or money buy presenting them with a tried and proven technique that works with a Hilux, then its worth setting up a Hilux club.
As for hybrids or mongrels, I guess the core would have to be a Hilux.
Eg. a Navara with a 3K Toyota engine would not cut the mustard!
Another thing I just thought of was the sheer number of Hilux's out there would mean club fees could be kept to a minimum! Plus by keeping the fee low, it would be an incentive for more farmers and tradesmen to join the knowledge base. The trade-off for them could be reduced maintenance costs by getting good unbiased advice.
It is sad to see that the great kiwi knock machine is alive and well!
