P76 started out at 4.4 litres. it is a fairly common practice to bore them out to 5 litres.
They guy i bought the motor off had it set up in a Jag.
I was going to use it to repower my surf but never got round to it.
I have no need for it now as I have a Supra powered Surf to replace the old 2.4 turbo IFS one that I had originally planned on putting the P76 in.

i have a mate that may have an ld28 for sale? maybe even an old 3b?otherwise i'd probably go for the supra 6 cylinder petrol option.. they dont quite sound like a v8 but just have a nice exhaust note all the same..

suppose it depends what your primary uses are gonna be..
good luck with the conversion.. write up a thread and post heaps of pics fella.. sure you're not the only one in the 'upgrade' boat..
best of luck!
p.s smurf, what exactly is wrong with commo v6? have a friend that may like this option..
OH im gonna cop some flack for this but here it goes ......... engine swaps toyota .... 2.8 lt ( 3L) vs the toyota ( 5M-6M-7M-7MGTE ) ENGINES this is only my opinion so don't get nasty ......... as i have carried out both these conversions and i must say .i would go with the toyota 2.8 litre diesel over and above any toyota M-series engine . why you asked pure convienence and COST . sure you can go and buy a complete supra or cressida for very reasonable money but thats where the cost saving ends as in most cases with the M-series you need to buy a new bellhousing or get an adapter plate added cost . then you need to buy a couple of radiator cooling fans more cost and more wiring . then you need to have the radiator top and bottom pipes modified to line up with the supra cooling system . and most probably have the alternator re-position as it is to low and will ( might fail) due to river crossing . next on the list is the fuel pump if you get a complete car then theres no problems just some more wiring and a little bit of fuel pipe and mounting it under the truck ( thats if its not worn out ) then you would have to sorce a new od s/hand one . but lets get under the bonnet ........ THE E.C.M wiring this can be the route of all evil as you have all read some of my own posts .. this can be the most time consuming part of the job if you want it done right as to not have it running rich or lean . i have seen alot of people have problems with the wiring such as the air flow meters and injectors cutting out and failing but a lot of this can be but down to pure old age or incorrect wiring im not being picky im just trying to spell out the truths about this engine swap and i know there are people out there that do this swap and have no problems with doing this engine swap i only want to give you some vere small idea of what to expect will post more on this later just got called back to work sorry....

and then some. The jappies have a self imposed celling on hp figures just like the yanks did during the seventys, its all on paper and may not represent the true hp figures. If you impressed with a standard motor, fit a deceit exhast and a airflow/ throttle body off a 7m turbo then see what happenswhat are supra's usually? 160+ hp standard...

well picked mine up from suprasurf(mike) the other day goes great, as for fans fuel pump etc, the fans only cost me $40 bucks for two about 10inch out of a later model hilux and an 1990 toyota levin no probs heaps of blow, wiring wasn't that bad, mike had it wired up just like that, fuel pump mounted two or three screws done. Haven't had it out in the mud yet, new baby and all, but can't wait to give it wirl, big difference compaired to the old ratterly diesel, and only paid $260 for my motor all up i probably spent $1000-1200, not to bad i say,

but what we doin rocks or mud thats the question
diesels are ideal for crawling foe there renowned low end torque from the word go.but id like to see a 3or 5l disel clear mud from some 35inch simexs well it wont when the petrol will ,its all about revs aswell as massive amounts of torque and have seen those 5ms etc up here and they go more places than those v8 landcruisers.and as mike said a bit of sealing and they will run in water all day long but theres been a few up here getting warn after about 4 hours of hard core boggin which can be resolved from some good thermo fans and a latemodel hilux alloy radiator so weve found, some of you southerners wouldent need to worry cos you dont have the clay and bush like we do and thats what kills it and lack of high speed air induction...
every to their own but as the questioin states above.........

Brett - how much do you have to spend on fuel?
My Supra-powered d-cab got 400km from a tank when pure open-road on 33's with 4.88s. Round town it got 280km from a tank.
And thats an economical one... Mike got 250-odd-km's or less consistently from memory.
I love the Supra swap, I love the sound, I love the torque. But I hated the cost of running it.
If you're driving it every day, go the 3L... similar torque, better economy, easier swap. If you want to flop your cock all around the place and throw big chunks of mud and rocks everywhere, go the 5M or 7M... but be duly warned, you will pay... and pay... and pay...
Or I have a 2JZ on its way... that would be a nice donk, although save $3.5k first, cos thats a price guesstimate on buying it, fitting it, adapting it etc...
Also, if you expect good 100km/h speed, think again... the 5M has about as much get up and overtake go as a 2L or a 4Y (in a Hilux, anyway)... its all down low with those motors.
Honestly, my 0.02 would be the same as Pinkys (although for different reasons) - go the 3L... or get a 3L and have a CT20 hairdryer bolted to it... they go really well like that.
