Re: ideas for trials vehicle
after ideas on a good set up what to use what not to use etc
Re: ideas for trials vehicle
Be careful, I think they changed the rules a few years ago and added a minimum factory weight fo "F" class to keep the likes of Vitaras out, only one that complies is the diesel one I think. Min weight from memory was 1350kg?

Re: ideas for trials vehicle
4x4wntab is right , but do you think I can find the reference to the rule this morning .
The big F class boys must have gotten there nose out with all the v6 and v8 suzukis in there class so added a rule that goes along the lines of to be in f class the trucks manufacturers listed curb weight must be more than 1300kg as factory . This counted out almost all suzukis , except the swb gen 2 diesel vitara comes in at 1305kg .
I believe someone tried to use one in this class and got denied , bit before my time
. Like to see someone test the rule again , can't see the reason he was denied .
If you want a v6 or v8 and don't what to be in D class start with a pajero .

Section four "Entrance to Events "
4.1 B .......
Class F - 5 + cylinder super production (exceeding 1300kg manufacturer's kerb weight for make model )
Bugger eh .
Go B class with a swb coil sprung prado with a lexus repower . No one was in B class this year thou so could be a bit lonely .Still once you have got to grips with it and it gets banged up a bit you can modify it and have a good base for an F then D class truck . Do a year in B , get keen and then modify the front end a bit and add fiddle brakes and go F class for a while until the body is really trashed , then lose the body( read weight ) and go all in with a tube frame .

Re: ideas for trials vehicle
So as long as it started out above the weight before it was chopped to hell it qualifies? That seems a little unfair. Talk about setting the bar just high enough to exclude the smaller wagons.
Wouldnt it be fairer to set a min weight?

Wouldnt it be fairer to set a min weight?
Re: ideas for trials vehicle
i reckon it should the truck shall weigh no less than 1300 kgs on the first hazard. then it prevents the "heavier" then becoming lighter with panel removal

I would personally start at the bottom and learn the sport and the truck etc etc etc
get in touch with lilpigzuk and see if hes ready to sell his A Class truck
it certainly teaches you a thing or two having to navigate a standard suzuki round a trials course
after a season or 3 in that class, then you can modify it for E Class and do a ew seasons in that before stepping up to the fully modded C Class
only my 2c

This IS the 4wda competition lets face it if the rules were there you would be able to build something to the rules and turn up to compete. Do WE really WANT YOU there? Not only wouuld you be able to see and read the rules you would be able to ask the correct questions before you build dam what an idea

Not that the rules will help with everything. They point you in the right direction but if you are thinking outside of the box and are in a gray area then you may have problems. If you are too good straight away for instance, then expect challenges to your reading of the rules (bit of the ole Denis Conner treatment if you are too good). Always get any ideas you have in writing and get them approved before doing them (and keep the paperwork for the scrutineer who doesnt believe what you have done is right).
Most of the guys involved in trials will tell you all you want to know (and more), but with all sports there are gray areas and this is where advances are made until they are outlawed by the officials.
Above all get into it and have fun.

also be aware the rules were changed at last AGM so there will be a few changes coming thru,
best one is "if it isn't written in the rule book you can't do it" technically, you cannot paint the wagon because it does not say you can, and loads more implications.
