front diff?

Post by gismo »

Hi Team

go a small question for you nissan fans.
My mate just got a 1990 safari. the front hubs have got auto and lock on them. they have the makings the same as a free wheeling hub.
this of course makes me just a little confussed (not hard for me).

To me it looks like you have the option of auto or locking. but we just want to make sure if this is the case.
any help would be wonderful

Cheers
Chris

In lock they are locked in and in auto they are auto locking (meaning auto unlocking). It is possible to convert them to lock / unlock but you need to pull them apart and modify a couple of things but relatively easy to do.

They are what I use on my winch truck (over 500hp) and also my wifes truck but I've converted them all to manual. They are plenty strong and only the factory manual are stronger. I don't like auto hubs at all as they hav a habit of not working when you want.

These are factory hubs and ive found them quite a bit stronger than after market ones ,if you use them in auto setting make sure when you take it out of 4wd that you reverse up a couple of mtrs other wise some times they dont dissingage and will make horrible noises

And if you fix an auto locker in the front make sure you lock them in when in 4wd, because otherwise they will shit themselves in no time at all

For a small fee it can be done for you!

There was a very good post with photo's on OL descibing it. I've gone a step further as I found they rattled a bit so what I do stops that as well. Search OL for it and it will tell all.
