Toyota Surf Alternator problem

I had a great weekend away in Ralley woods.... Unfortunatally my alternator decided to stop working... i pulled it out finally, gave it a clean and put it back in, still dosent work.... Would i be better to replace it or try to get it fixed.... Thanks in advance Jonny

if its a 2lt/2lte one I have a fully rebuilt one sitting in my garage somewhere....
70 series prado (KZJ78) and 90 Series Prado (KZJ95)

how do you know its not working

have you had it tested or tested it yourself

Bubba has exerience in fixing alternators :lol: :lol: :lol:

Hi, I havent tested it, but checked wiring, plugs etc all is well.... The battery is ok, the battery light wont go out.....

Have you checked it's got permanent 12v at the altenator? Happened to me and changed alts didn't fix it. traced wires back and found a broken wire

Hi, If you have a voltmeter check at the battery when the engines running. You should be getting around 14 volts out of the alternator. When you cleaned it up did you check the brushes. I had the same problem on my Hilux. Turned out to be the brushes. Other that that check all your connections/earths.

Hi, the alternator is burried down the bottom of the engine bay..... the battery is getting no power am having to crash start it.....

you can check it at the battery

dude it will be brushes pull it apart and replace em and i may have one floating about too

Not necessarily, the internal regulator is quite prone to failure, but of course it is best to replace brushes if you have it out. It's a much easier job if you ditch the A/C compressor aswell.

what modle surf is it?
ive just replaced my mates one that cooked a diode. ln61
first one ive seen do that
if its a ln61 it will have an external reg, ive got a spare if you need it
apart from diodes brushes bearings and regulators nothing realy goes wrong with them lol
come to think of it the toyota alts arnt much beter than the crap valeo alt stuck on the side of my m3!!!

we broke it :roll: :oops: :oops:

heres everyone thinking its a 2LT

turns out its a 22R

was clogged full of mud and shit, but some of copper wires broke in the process of trying to prise it apart

Got another alternator for 50 from dunedin.... it arrived today, now its fitted.... mobile again, no more busses...... Skids flattie has one also, so now ill have a spare.... Cheers dor your help guys.... Jonny
