Normally you'd pull the old inner cable out from the transfer case end, but if yours has broken off 6" up the tube (first try pulling it out on this end anyway) you'll need to do the following:

You'll have to remove the speedo/guage cluster, all you need it a philips screw driver. 4 screws along bottom of plastic gauge cover/trim on either side of steering column, 2 above cluster (have to pull whole plastic trim up a couple of cm's). After that pull the cover forward enough to remove plug from 4wd switch/electric mirror jobbie/glow plug bulbs etc - then you can take that cover off.

Now there will be 4 screws holding the gauge cluster to the dash, remove those from each corner. The hard part now is to be able to squeeze your hand behind the gauge cluster to remove the 2 loom plugs and unclip the speedo cable (easiest from right hand side).

Be prepared to lose some skin and swear a couple times

Once the gauge cluster is out of the way you should hopefully be able to pull the cable out from this end (the cable tube jobbie stays there).

Note that not all cables are the same length. I tried to fit the inner cable from a BJ74 MWB auto into a BJ73 MWB manual and the cable was a foot longer.
