A Supra conversion could cost that, but you'd have to get lucky and find a 5-speed car cheap first...

Like I said, whats your fuel budget once you're done? you'll spend the difference in gas way faster than you think, especially traipsing across the plains every weekend to go snowboarding...

A runabout car is a good idea... I have my wee $150 Hyundai for running about in (not that I drive it as much as I should - like driving the MU too much :) ) - 42MPG in the Hyundai and nothing ever breaks on it vs. around 25MPG on the MU...

You should be able to find a 3L for around $2-2.5k and it will just drop straight in... no stuffing about... a Supra conv will probably set you back that much all said and done, and your fuel bill will be double the diesels.

Whats been breaking on it? Remember, I've seen you drive it so I'm not too surprised the odd thing falls off

Technically, I'm not sure a cert would be needed as its not a 20% power increase from the 2L, and they are a factory option in the Hiluxes (although not your model from memory)

Buy Riks one so he can fit a supercharged 454 big-block into his :P

hey insky i have two motors that could be of use to you. the first is a 2L like what is in your truck but its only 90% good. it needs a bit of work as it developes a rattle when hot. the second is a 5M supra motor, bellhousing and hilux W56 gearbox, and a spare head that is in a wreck i brought. appears to be complete and unsure whether this one runs but is supossd to be out of a running car according to the previous owner. im more of a diesel man than a petrol. im sure with a bit of help from steve or mike this thing would be great. i may also be able to track down a 3L for you too.

shit it seems i have opend a can of worms but this is all good it is about time we had a good disscusion on this type of swap . lets have a vote .......... how many people have actually fitted a toyota 5M-6M-7M-7MGTE ENGINE and got it finished and road legal with out too many complications whether it be hard starting rough running blown heads - gaskets or low oil pressure or miss-firing and i dont mean how you feel about the engine be honest as i know there are people on here that say it is an easy swap but can some times talk up this swap ..

yep you will turn heads if you go 4 the supra swap as it is an increase in power ?? ( some times ) but dont be surprised if you turn heads 4 another reason as all that crunt go down through your drive line and shits a diff or an axle ( well thats all i did in mine ) and then you have to get towed home .. please im not being mean just being honest so you can make an informed decision

well brett, i'm a diesel man. torque economy and relatively low maintenance..

  diesel.... you are thinking diesel............. dont look around the eyes, dont look around the eyes, look into the eyes, directly into the eyes, not around the eyes. on the count of three, you'll choose a diesel.

the 3L is an exceptional engine and quite peppe my last 3l swap was the best . i fitted new flows and new injectors + altered the pump timing and amount of fuel being injected . but i did something stupid and sold it couse i wanted a 4 door surf ( the worst mistake i ever made) and then i went and got marred so its not hard to see where i went wrong

my current surf is a old 2 door ln61v but with a re-built 2.4 turbo and it goes like stink with new injectors rings and pistions big ends and mains but i have done the pump timing and pump flow . and it all good SHIT . the engine kit was so cheap is worth doing . but all after-market parts and at trade prices i think the hole truck owes me $1000.00 now thats a good cheap truck

Not me... have a look on trademe and in the buy sell... check with Bill (WJW) as he's got the contact details for a place that imports them... although also ask him about the engine probs he's had with the one he got from them... Pinky probably could explain that too as he got the fun job of trying to stand in the middle and fit the engine for Bill while dealing with them over the problems... Was it Blairs? Pinky?

Failing that go shopping at Turners in the wrecked cars auctions... might be worth looking at buying a complete rollover or something like that... I could help with that, since the rest of the vehicle might be of some use to me...

Steve

PS: those shackles have been around for a while in different ways... I think the Jeep Revolver ones were around first but they're not too hard to make... just get them welded by someone competent with a grunty welder... or pay the coin and buy some.

Well there a re a couple of 2l diesels running around canterbury, one 2.4 turbo and one 2.4 with a supercharger for overtaking they both have a lpg injection setup into the air intake.

Feels like nos for a diesel, not sure on all the details but it need's to be force fed for the greatest effect. It is the diesel ignition that ignights the LPG so you get a bigger power stroke
