3L turbo boost pressure
3L turbo boost pressure
Not really offroading related, but what's the factory boost on these and is there any scope for upping things a bit without doing the exhaust and/or running into fuel supply problems??

std boost is around 8-10 psi
uping the boost even 2psi wont do a great deal if anything it will do bad with a std exhaust etc...
ive had a bit to do with these and have got some good power figures from the mods ive done too.
best money spent and noticeable power gains like any diesel get the thing to breathe more.....
2.5 inch exhaust (turbo back)
k&n filter(you would be amazed the power gain at 130-150 bucks)
start with this and then well talk more about boost fiqures and fuel delivery but its the first thing you wana do
good luck bud

150 bucks for a filter!!! and if it breathes better than stock it's probably filtering less too...
So you've seen good gains, eh. Out of interest where abouts in the range, more grunt at 2 or will it tend to hold good power a bit higher up instead of dying at 3- 3.5? I reckon if you could hold the same power the standard 3l makes at 2 until 3.5 you'd have quite a sporty wagon.

That's about the same pressure as mine runs (13psi)
Had good quality vacuum & pressure gauge on it for a while after I put my new and ported head on. (Only mod so far) Yes they do have vacuum as you roll off the throttle, cos the butterfly closes.
Re: 3L turbo boost pressure
if you block off the egr valve and remove the throttle butterfly i found mine runs 75deg c cooler exhaust temp on average and am running 12lbs on std exhaust(est2 1/4)with out it getting hot. i am planning on 2.5/3" exhaust, intercooler, mechanical pump & 18-20psi
. as from what i have herd if you increase boost & not fuel you cool you're egt & i've heard 18-20psi is achievable depending on how much fuel you put in as not to o/heat the engine & not to exceed 500deg C just after the turbo.

Re: 3L turbo boost pressure
i hope you have a soild flywheel or it will slip, im runing 13 psi on my 1 with standard exhaust then went to 2.5 inch and it made it rev out a bit faster the fucked the flywheel going to put a intercooler on it and try put sum more boost into 2 it

Re: 3L turbo boost pressure
The 3L never came out with a turbo to my knowledge. Toyota told me for an after market one on the 2.8 not to go over 7-8 lbs.

Re: 3L turbo boost pressure
like callum007 said go the intercooler helps cool intake temps.im running the sane motor as him and my mod list is:
2.5 inch exhaust strait out under drivers door
huge front mount intercooler
k&n filter
big front mounted oil cooler
wound up diesel pump
boost controller runs 10 psi has done for years
these mods were done 1 by 1 and each made a difference
the truck takes a long time to warm up now days and sits on the bottom red mark on temp gauge
im running 36's with big 4.1 diffs and does it no prob
goes good for what it is but its no gtr skyline

have a 1kzte in my 96 prado, how much more power could i expect from a k an n air filter ? 5kW ? 10 kW ?

can you tell us more about this? you running the electric fuel pump at the moment?1rugger wrote:if you block off the egr valve and remove the throttle butterfly.

Yes I'm still running the electric fuel pump. on the back of the exhaust manifold there is a pipe that goes round the back of the engine and goes through the egr valve which is there to keep emissions down by putting hot exhaust gasses into the intake all the time except full throttle. you can simply put a blanking plate on the exhaust side or you can completely remove the valve then weld up & port the manifolds. you can the pull the butterfly out by removing the throttle body and removing the two small screws that hold the butterfly in place. as it is only there to create a vacume to pull exhaust gasses through.there is also a small butterfly to help with engine starting and shut down witch can be removed if you wish. you then get more airflow& turbo comes on a bit earlier
