Rover Starter Motor

Post by mike »

So my rover starter motor crapped out. Solenoid contacts obviously rusted or corroded and when the slider goes in starter wasnt turning, just throwing. After looking at some more costly solutions (after market and second hand which funnily enough are the same price) than the solution I ended up using I visited the local wrecker and it turns out the solenoid on these things are exactly the same as a holden commodore one but with the holes just ever so slightly out. You could re-drill and get 2 or 3 bolts in but I just used the one and its perfectly fine. They do not have a rubber boot over the piston meaning that they will fill up and eventually seize quicker than a new 4wd version but I think pulling it out and cleaning it every now and again is preferable as the motors always fill up with crap anyway.

All in all a very nice surprise for a rover owner

There is a rover up at pick-a-part at the moment and it looks almost complete...
