Cape Palliser - Martinborough/White Rock

Post by coop »

Gday when i was a kid we did this a couple of times, just wondering if its still possible to do that journey? Or has it been closed off to general public? Havent been out that way for years now and I'm heading down to Wellington over Queens Bday so would like to give it a go. Cheers.

Never been around there but I'm pretty sure the dutchman locks the gate at Whiterock station (the paper roads washed out to sea and the formed road is his property or something like that) and charges for access, I think all the surfies pay him $150 a year for a key and I heard a few years back that some of the land around by Ngawi is moari land or contested land and they get a bit funny around there. Might be worth talking to the DoC Masterton ot TeKopi offices to get a better idea

Didn't he sell that to DOC - 3 or so years ago - last time we tried to go that way DOC flew in the day before and changed all of the locks  :(
