Tyre size restrictions?

This should stir debate, it's already stirred me

I read in the NZFWDA north zone agm minutes it was unaminously passed that clubs should "strongly" recommend a 33" tyre size limit policy on trips

. Both my trucks have 35's so I'm out - and most of the time I lead the trip ?

Why does it always have to come back to tyre size :roll:

From where I sit if you stopped all but under 33" tyres going up the Waikato side of Thompson's would it stop the damage? - no I don't think so - it's more the shear volume of traffic.

I go to meetings, liase for better access, expected to fight the politicians and now I'm expected to stay at home? :cry:

its all about driving style. bigger tyres make your truck more capable therefore you need less wheel spin etc causing less damage... depending how you drive it.

I'm all for a 33" minimum tyre size...

I don't understand that rule... its been discussed at length on here before in another thread and stirred a little heat then - but a guy with half-bald 33's will do 10 times the track damage I will do on my 36's.

Just another bone of contention I have with clubs... no-one can clarify the reasoning behind it other than guys with big trucks are apparently just complete animals with no respect for the terrain they traverse...

NZFWDA can recomend all they like it isnt going to stop me from running 37's.

It is a recomendation though, its up to your indivdual club. If they all start doing it ORE will be getting bigger and bigger!

I cant see it happening im my club most of the commitee members run on 35"+ tyres and the president runs 37" aswell.

Yeah thats common sense isn't it. After all what is a 2.4 diesel surf on 35's gonna do compared to a lexus or supra powered, diff locked surf on 33's

.

It's a crazy idea isn't it? especially when most of the various NZ compititions allow up to the larger size. Just doesn't make sense.

Mine as well

. Unfortunity alot of clubs don't send the guys that matter to the zone meetings, so when it comes down to votes the deligate will simply vote on what suits him!

ORE will get bigger and bigger as these things happen. Just look at how many have joined over the last week or two

Nope, they'd form a subcommittee in their club investigating the way 35's obviously damaged the track so that 33's couldn't get through any more... :roll:

suppose it would be good for the committee to set up a memorandum, put up a topic for discussion, debate with a sub-committee the pros and cons of such a debate, coalate the information gathered by the relevant committee to be concurrent with current findings from other clubs sub-committees on the public stance of private and public land usage by these clubs and committees and the probable detrimental effect this has on future representations within the 4wding community/ clubs/ and committee and sub-committee members..... :roll:

or some crap!!! pack of idiots. bureaucratic rubbish.

give us our over 33" tyres and be done with it..

Our club has quite a few guys that do the trials, so they will be against it, another couple do the winch challenges so they will be against it, Most of the other clubs in Auckland have a heap of winch challenge competitors so Im sure those clubs would be against this ruling??

Has been argued to buggery many times....... i will stick with my 31's and and 32's on my zuks, same clearence as you guys on 35's

Thats allright lilpig, Suzukis and 32's are cool. One of our guys runs 35 swampers on a Zook buggy and can't damage anything it's that light! Perhaps they should then recommend a weight restriction, woops there goes all the Patrols :wink:

Thats the biggest problem I have with the club im in, so if they wont let me come on trips when i get 35"'s I'll go else where.

Rex, I just checked, out of the 13 clubs represented at that meeting six were Auckland based clubs and all of them supported the recommendation ??

I might have to move to Mainland to escape anymore regulations

But my wife reacons it's too cold in Alex.

or I might be able to get a new job at Steve's SAS Motors Co Ltd.
