ELECTRIC WINDOWS STRUGGLING

over the last year or so my electric windows in my 80 have progressively got slower and are now at the stage where they need a helping hand, to not only go up, but to also go down as well.

couple of questions, not sure which battery they run off, but if one of those batteries was low, would it be affecting the electric motors

I have lubed up the slides with silicon etc, but they are still struggling.

I think I have read somewhere about cleaning the contacts or something to do with the motors


any ideas to make the windows powerful again, so they can go up and down on thier own

jump the battery and see if it makes a difference, i think you may have a couple there you could use

if not good remove the door switches and pull apart and clean the contacts inside the switch unit,

did it to my Fairmont and made a improvement,

next step is to remove the motors from the windows and clean the commutator and brushes and regrease bearings.

that should fill in a day or two for ya......

Lube window rubbers and remove door cards and lube regulators.

could be contacts as I have this problem in the saf. If using the drivers side control to wind up the passenger window its as slow as hell, but super fast using the passenger control. Goinf to clean the contacs as I know they get alot of mud on them.

yeah it doesn't matter which controls I use, its slow on both ones, which contacts are you guys talking about, the ones under the switch coz they look bloody clean as on the passenger side. Is there something I can spray on them to clean them or make them conduct better

and the lube thing as mentioned hasn't worked, still struggles

will wait for wind and rain to stop and then pull door apart, probably next weekend

could this possibly be a contributing factor all electrical items going slowly, and also as it sits on the back lawn for a week with no use, the central locking doesn't always work either, will centrally lock all doors but a week later it only opens the drivers door, possibly dude to not enough power, but the weird thing about all of this is that it starts fine and have tested the batteries and they are fine

true, but that company rep has tested the batteries and they are fine

I may get the same guy to put 2 brand spanking new ones in and see what kind of difference it makes, if any

I knew it was only a matter of time before someone went down the smartass route

Unlike you Skiddy boy, I know what the problem is and can't be assed fixing it whenit is cold and raining and don't have a garage.

Start checking the earth connections at the relays
