Stupid drunken idiots aside, MU's and some 70 series cruisers have removable lids ... the rear top of the Mu can be taken off to make it into a "covertable" or a Mysterous Utility (hence MU) :) and from memory they are fited standard with 4 seats

The point is there is no roll-over protection for the rear passengers in those open top vehicles

did some sweet offroading/exploring in a couple semi rural/industrial area's last night. was good fun.

Today finished siliconing up my snorkel, just waiting for the silicone to set proper then i can put it all together and on. Also tried to pull my front main pulley off my engine to replace it but no such luck. actually snapped one of the heads off my extention... damn super cheap. will have a crack at it when I get my bars made up. gave the radiator a good flush while it was out too. still gotta do box and diff oil changes and breathers.

3 hour or so working bee, maintenance at Onewhero farm, then hour or 2 play in swamp and mud.
Stalling on the hills is starting to piss me off, 3y goes mint, real reliable, but soon as it goes off-road and gets a bit of abuse, it stalls easy, didnt help that my handbrake cable snapped this morning, so stalling on the hills then tryna hill start wasnt fun....
really need to find a 22RE or 3RZ-FE

Two things to note.....

The right hand track heading to the summit NEEDS to be left the F##K alone.... or someone is going to get seriously hurt, or worse. It used to be left by many for the down track only. Seeing as how the left and centre tracks are getting "too hard" for some, the left track is copping a lot of use, and hence about half way up is breaking through adjacent to a gully and a drop to nowhere.
Three vehicles in the last two weeks have now been recovered from this very point trying to ascend, and if a decent is attempted, esp in the wet, tyres will drag to the left and potentially over the edge.
There isnt much stopping it from breaking away now. This is not a "maybe".... Shit WILL happen here... and it will not be "Good Shit"

Secondly..... I am utterly sick to death of punks in daddys 4x4 drinking piss and leaving their F#####G cans and bottles etc laying all over the place. Also, tonight we had some stoopid twat about 6 inches away from death cause it was cool to drift down the muddy hill 1/2 way up thommos, it got away and he ended up 1/4 over the edge.
Two trucks trying to winch him back onto the track, WITH two more trucks as anchors couldnt budge him. We got him out eventually, with his drunk/stoned mates looking on. At least they saved us the ignominy of trying to offer advise.

I think one of the occupant of the 4 trucks in that crew said "thanks".

did they have recovery gear? Did they have tow hooks? Did they have half a brain between them?

I'm pissed off.

F....ing leave them there. let them explain when they sober up

Yeah that was us mate, saw ya coming back looking nice and filthy!!

One of the passengers is a neighbour. He had been over earlier in the morning when we were out, to see if I would go up with them 'cause they werent setup for anything. He saw the potential for issues, and he was the only sober one in the crew. (that i could tell anyway)

DrPC.... would love to have left them there, but we felt the situation needed to be sorted there and then. Too many silly lads and too much booze had already left one truck in a dangerous possie, and we couldnt in all good conscience leave things to potentially get any worse.

RJ proposed today that perhaps a few of us go up for a cleanup day, theres the bottles/cans etc all over the show, but also some left behind car parts etc too.... thoughts?

a friend brought himself a standard ln130 surf, new road tires few dints and what not, he came up to rotorua so i took him out to this little 4wd park on the side of the road just out of rotorua on friday, we had a ball, he got stuck plenty of times but, i had a ball pulling him out of the mud!. went thru to whakatane friday night for a friends 21st bday. then went back to rotorua at 10ish unpacked the trucks and went 4wding again. on the way home stopped at the same spot just out of rotorua to have one last play in the mud before he had to head home for napier, my truck was running fine then it just made this big loud clank clank clank noise completely gutless and smokes like a bitch! now.

And now im in napier for the week, trying to decide weather i want to move here or not, and teaching my mate the basics of 4wding and helping him learn his truck.

Switched insurance companies on my Series 2a ... I'm now paying 2/3 rd less for the same level of coverage :D ... go policies which take into account the age of said wheels and the lack of mileage they do.

put new tyres on the g after yorick so kindly fitted them on my rims while testing out his new toy have to say it does look good will get pics up soon

also investigated my engine not running quite right
i have been putting off doing a compression test for a while was convinced it was something else finally gave in and did the comp test and what do you know the rings are stuffed so pulled out the motor i have just finished installing and removed the head
one of the cylinders had such a shine on it you could see a reflection
the motor had to come out anyway as the rear crank seal was stuffed
fortunately i happen to know where there is a fully rebuilt short block for one of these engines it is in yoricks shed right next to our collection of merc motors and apparently he is willing to let me have it in exchange for the head on that lump of metal i bought a few weeks back
my 4wd is not a truck

old mercedes never die but sometimes they do need some love

older cars are good, mercedes are better, older mercedes are the best

Added a few things to the shed over the last week or two. 5.29 diff with airlocker goin' in the old Paj this week ready for a thrash down Ngaroma on Queens birthday.

Image

And a "new" Paj with 4m40 that's going to be my tow wagon and daily runner. Bought it for bugger all and absolutely immaculate interior and body with a seized motor.... only downside was the farking perfumery inside. Had to leave the doors open for three days to get the shampoo factory smell out.
