from what ive heard the vh41 is a better motor, its a leter version and makes the same power and many other things to do with how the actual motor works but im not 100% sure

A lot of work involved in fitting a VH motor. RB30 would be easy, they came as a factory option in OZ, although you would be running a weaker gearbox.

buying the engine will be the cheapest part of the conversion by a country mile, i would say a chev conversion would be cheaper

yea a chev/holden would be much cheaper.
just been looking on marks 4wd adapters they do chev and holden

cant find nissan adapers any where. so have decided to forget about the nissan v8

and am going for a chev 305 or maybe the 350.
and holden 308 or vn 5ltr.
im doing all the work my self so shouldnt hit the wallet too bad but then again i could balls it up and will cost a bit

a ls1 would be good but like the nissan too expensive may be wrong.

I have decided to go with a 305 Chevy fitted with an HEI and 500 Holley as marks 4wd make the adaptors to nissan GQ 5 speed, engine mounts to nissan td42 and headers that fit around the mounts.

Dose anyone make these or stock them in nz

The VH41 and VH45 are basically the same motor. The only real difference (apart from 400cc) is the 41 has a duplex timing chain and smaller cam pulleys so the cam covers are slightly narrower and the 41 has the alternator in the valley so an easier fit for many conversions.
The VH uses the same auto as a Safari (and also a 300ZX tt) so bolting it to a Safari t-case is pretty easy in auto form.
The VH has no manual option and there is no manual that will bolt to it without an adapter. There are sevral of these available from the US to suit 5 speeds and I think there is one in Oz to suit the Safari 5 speed. But I have no idea why you'd want a manual in an offroader other than to retain the factory pto.
The motor is the same physical size as a big block! The factory manifolds will not fit inside the chassis rails. It has a front sump so that will need to be modified. Like the Lexus it has very tight toleranced so any oil hiccups will eat the bearings (says the guy with a dead motor!)

My choice would be a VH with Safari auto (well VH auto as more clutch packs) and a manual valve body. (well that is what I have but with a big turbo)

Any V8 conversion will require either moving the motor foward, the cab back or firewall mods to fit. The firewall is shaped o fit an inline 6 not a V8!

I wouldn't go with a 5l conversion as why spend all that time, effort and money when you can get that amount of power from a TD42 with less money!! ie turbo, I/C and fuel pump.
Anything short of a 350 is a waste of time for the effort. IMO

Decide whether you are after a V8 or you are after performance as they aren't necassarily the same thing. Best case for a 305 Chev is what? About 300hp? That is factory for the VH and with a tune and extractors it will be around 340hp. A worked TD42 will do this and will be cheaper and more reliable.
What about a TB42 and turbo or supercharger? Cheaper to setup and a bolt in conversion.

Now an RB30 conversion with a twin cam head and a good turbo I/C setup would be a lot of fun.

And a lot of other stuff!!!
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.
