June 17th 2006, Muriwai

Post by PajeroMan »

Hey all,

Been a newbie to 4WD'ing and having a 'shiney' truck, I am planning an afternoon run up at muriwai beach. Seeing as though high tide is about 11am (i think) I was going to get out there and start at 2pm.

If anyone is keen, Me and the misses would love to meet you guys for a drive and to see what its all about. Been up the run in Muriwai before, But i am not keen on been to extreme, but as i have two arms and two legs, I am more than keen to help anyone else out of the crap.

Anyways. Meet time will be 1:30 at the caltex on SH1, by the turn off to the beach. As i dont have a tyre pressure thingy i will be using the gassy's air pump.

So dont be to harsh on a newbie: Just niice replys sought after!

high-tide on the 17th is around 2:30pm.. usually look at Onehunga tide and minus 30miins for high and 40mins for low

or something like that

double and check and let me know. i'll come for a blast.

bring a rig wearing tow hooks. a strap and a spade ;)

callum007: Dude thats cool we can meet up locally and go from there. Give you details closer to the time.

PAID: Dude, where can you find acurate information from. The best i could do was from
http://www.niwascience.co.nz/services/tides/results
Which tells us that Muriwai has a High tide of 13:50 on the 17th!

How long do we need to wait for the tide to go down enough to be able to drive on the harder sand?

At high tide on that beach is a b****tch cause the sand is far to soft, you use far to much gas just trying to get to the good places. Any ideas ppl? :?

8) try the following weekend - low is about 3pm - so you should have about 2 to 3 hrs either side to slip and slide

Tides should also be ok on 10/11 June - check maps and look to run out on Rimmer Road if it's getting tight rather than risking extra time on beach.

i use niwa or hydro.linz.. they're usually around the same time. although once you're out there you wonder how they come up with their times :)

beware of niwa's tide height data also. not sure how they read that

a couple hours either side of high tide is usually fine.

i've been all the way up on a high tide and all the way down at night on a king. it's hard on your rig tho

im in for the 24th..

If you guys are going to can it for the 17th and do it on the 24th, i'll see you their!!!

Its a good trip for me as i can leave the muddies at home and have a comfy trip up the motorway on the road tyres. The road tyres are only 31 x 10.5 but that just adds to the fun!!!!

dunno if im the right choice ;) i'd be inclined to intentionally lead everybody astray.

bring a bedroll and food to.. depending on the weather i might stay up there and come out on the early morning low tide

Well lets see who turns up on the day, the most experianced up there can lead. If they want to!! hehehe
