Waitoki 4WD Track

Post by Rych »

Hi I heard that there is a good 4WD track in Waitoki, Auckland? It is supposed to be public land and open to anyone, has anybody got any information on this place, I'd like to go check it out sometime...

from my googling, it seems its between Helensville and Dairy Flat, as far as hunting i have no idea where it actually is.

So far all I can find is this out in the middle of Kaukapakapa.
No info on it though.

And the Extreme 4WD.Co.NZ Ltd‎ place, which I have done a course at, might be able to arange a trip in there, a friend often goes possum hunting in there.

I would be interested in more info on this as well. I hope someone can enlighten us....it would be good to have more places around Auckland open to the general public.

i love dredging up old threads...

these pics were taken in waitoki late last year, i only got to where i was, by it looked like the track went for a little bit longer... my old man lives in Kaukapakapa and there are a few small tracks around there ive found. Going to find that Waitoki one this week or next week and see how long it goes for

Did this track last night.... its pretty good! it was bone dry this time.

Got almost to the end (about 1-1.5 kms) and got bellied in some deep ruts the Terrano couldnt handle. Took a while to jack up + logs under tyres but got out!

Where abouts is this exactly? Got any more pics?

Also what sort of access is it - legal/illegal?

Yo

Didnt get any pics as it was pitch dark last night. Next time when i go up during the day. Some parts are really narrow through the pine trees, so might be difficult for a biggish 4x4. Not 100% sure if its legal or not... Heard someone say it was public land?

Maps:
first one is where Waitoki is: (Head down Forrestry road just before waitoki)

Image

2nd one: the circle to the most right in the centre is where we went in, and it goes for a bout 1km until the exit in the left circle

Image

Im planning on going up another day during the day, so will take pics then!

The track you describe appears to go thru Riverhead Forest which is Closed to the public and access is via a permit.

the track is only meters from the side of the road. I dobut you would need a permit for that. Just go and have some fun. The end has some narly dips. Better for the swb's.

I drive past these spots all the time. It is owned by the forrestry company and I believe it is trespassing to use these tracks. I do know that if you got on trails beside Awarimu Valley Road the locals will take down your reg number and report to the authorities. Cheers.
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!
