Yeah I thought they did a good job.

They used about 28 pictures on the feature. One of them I was upside down.
I'd like to thank the people at the last Sheffield Mud Plug that took some of best pictures I have of the truck in action. The one of it hand standing in the water was magic timing.

Other articles in the mag make my truck look pretty plain really. This month's read is a good one I think.

My input was effortless really The biggest effort for me was shelling out the coin for the work done.
Full credit to Rick n Corey. They've done most of the work.
It was pretty rough right after the re-power. But those two have sorted things out to how it is today and I couldn't be happier.

After I posted that, I did think about the cost Sadam and how hard it was to swallow every bill as they kept stacking up. But once I'd spent over half the build cost, there was no turning back. I'm over $30k worse off no question. It's taken just over 2yrs which I recon ain't bad.
I'm happy with the end result.

I look at other projects on here. It's great reading what others are doing.

There's a young fella I know here in Chch who's looking at mine for ideas. His project is a 6L LS2 powered FJ40. He's already got the motor, 40 n other parts.
I hope he puts a build thread up on it. It'll be a beast. It'll smoke mine.

every time i look at your truck i drool, i hope one day mine will be like yours, its a mean machine!!!! all i have is a chassis and a motor.
Anyway awesome article in the mag, now i have to save to get wheels on my turning.....

A few weeks ago I took the boat up to Nelson for the school holidays. It was a great trip, apart from a speeding ticket on the way home. and this odd noise coming from the rear of the cruiser.
Turns out I've worn out the rear diffs crown n pinon.
Second hand parts huh.




The new parts will be installed shortly. At around $800

Has anyone who owns a FJ/BJ40 done a rim flip before? If so what were the measurements and performance like?

I'm looking at getting it done to give me a better turning circle in the supermarket carparks. Oh as well as a couple of other reasons.

Any feed back would be great thanks.

With beadlocking as well I think my rims went out 65-75mm each side, dont think it did much to the turning circle other than stopping chassis rub but the extra stability of the wider track is noticable

Ok. Yeah mine rubs alot in the rear. Would be nice to have that sorted. I wondered if the offset would put much more stress on things?

Cruiser wheel bearings are big and ugly enough to handle a bit of off set as long as they are well greased and in good condition to start with.

I had my rims done about 5 years ago by Elite wheels in Chch but they ended up with one not running true. Had a slight wobble so had to make sure that was the spare.

These days I now use 30mm bolt on wheel spacers with no problems. had to get them certified but that was relatively hassle free.

Personally, which would be better? Spacers or rim flipping? I'm guessing you'd get more offset rim flipping as 30mm a corner ain't a lot? As I have two set of rims n tires if I brought the spacers would mean I wouldn't have to do all 8 rims.

Very true mudz.
My truck was complete once I was able to drive it everyday. But I don't think the mods will ever stop.

-I'm still playing with the idea of coil springs just in the back.
-As soon as I find a good paint n panel shop I'll be getting a serious camo job done.
-The LS1 is getting freshened up with a new set of pistons n rings and a very mild cam. It had new VCM dual value springs last year.

Those are the only mods on the table.

Had no hassles getting them certified despite an extra couple of mm width. Those Hofmann ones actually have Euro approval through some German certification company so shouldn't have any problems.

At the moment my truck has been waiting 2 days for parts for the rear diff before it can go anywhere. It's a bit frustrating. Shims is what's needed. And apparently they are like hens teeth to find.

If you are going to keep your truck it would probably pay to order and buy a complete set from toyota. When I bought my set it was the only one left at the mains Toyota parts warehouse for the country.

Toyota branches don't carry them in stock anymore since the later stuff has used collapsible spacers

I think there are 10 different size shims available but you need all of them to set a diff up properly.
