I've built up a surf wide axle rear diff with the mr2 rear brakes almost ready to put it into my lux but need to sort out the hand brake cables. wondering what setup's work and the cheapest way to hook them up. i'm hopping to use the existing hand brake lever just not sure on how to hook up the cables i'm guessing i'm going to have to get custom cables made. also have a problem with the mr2 hand brake lever hitting the leaf springs may need to shorten lever by 3-4mm which will effect leverage on hand brake so was wondering how effective these hand brakes are on a hilux any info would be great
Best option is to use a normal handbrake like bulletproof had done, you should run two lines to the brakes and a balance. Have seen handbrakes done a couple of ways but the factory pull is not very efficient for disk brakes.

would like to keep my cab as original/tidy as possible so will attempt to keep factory hand brake but may have to do a bit of fabrication to get the right leverage but if i shorten the lever on the brake i'm worried i'll end up snapping cables all the time. used 6 stud prado(i think) rear disk's with one of marks adapters from http://www.snr4wd.co.nz so far everything has just bolted up without any problems other than the hand brake issue. also have ifs hubs to install which will be the next mission.will get some pic's tomorrow .

I've got Subaru callipers on my truck but the principal should be the same, the callipers are using the origional subaru handbrake cables and pickup my shortened cruiser handbrake cable under the tray.
If your handbrake levers are hitting your leafsprings it might get a bit tricky
also got the diff fitted yesterday after i solved the problem of how do i jack the truck up to remove the diff with a high lift and no axle stands high enough
also here's a pic of the overall width difference of the diff's.
Nice work mate but you might want to pull those pic's of lifting the truck coz that looks real dodgy, you could stack some wheels or something under it to support the weight of the vehicle if you havent got any axle stands

Best otion for removing axles complete safely at home is to still use your axle stands, one under each chassis rail, take the wheels off and lower axle onto a trolley jack and drag it out without the wheels on once you've undone all the mounts.
If you index your mounts towards the front do the hit the springs? heres a shot of mine.
i agree it does look dodgy but was never under it it like that as i always had springs sitting an axles with wheels on when i was under it and a steel ramp jammed under chassis so if the jack failed it nothing would happen. that photo was taken when i jacked it up to roll the diff out and by no means was i under the truck at that stage.
all in now and works really well, infact too well i'll have to hook up the rear brake balance bar as the rear overpowers the front brakes.
was wondering if someone with a 130 series surf could take a photo of how the center hand brake arm is setup as they have two separate hand brake cables to the rear and there center arm has more leverage than my old one.

yes they do still hit the springs unless you go a bit further fwd then the brake is the lowest part. thinking of fabricating a new arm and bracket as it will be the only option if i keep the brakes where they are.
