anyone got a spare PTO winch

Post by mercutio »

and you are wondering what to do with it

i don't care what it is off and i don't need the actual PTO unit as i plan to run it with hydraulics
i would prefer it to be worm drive but beggars can't be choosers

anything considered

cheers guys

Try and use a cruiser one, the patrol ones are a bit weak and in demand from the winch challenge boys

In case you missed it:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Toyota/Accessories/auction-57684549.htm

I'll give ya $150 for the PTO box if ya buy it :D

The toyota setups seem to go for around $450 - $550

from what i understand ,apart from the shaft boss being slightly different dimensions the worm gears on the patrol and cruiser are identical, the only reason for winch chalange guys to use the cruiser one is the quick release leaver mech for the drum over the patrols locking hub mech and the price with the cruiser being more common in nz

Yep, spares are always good, will it fit the split case transfer box?

The Nissan ones are Ali and fail under high loads. The worm winds out through the front of the housing

Looks like the old style 40 series cruiser pto is different. They have 3 cogs & forward-neutral-reverse, the new ones have 2 cogs & are just in or out. This also means the old ones can spool in either way whereas the new one will only spool in from the top of the drum if 5 forward & 1 reverse speeds are desired.

But I have a mate with a 40 so I'll still grab a cheap pto box for him if one comes up.

Cheers

hey clint,

yea the older ones are way cool, can do top gear in or out on the cable

my one is the older type which unfortunatly does not fit my new transfer case so its sitting bolted to a transfer case and 3spd box all ready to go. im hopeing to sell it to fund getting a PTO for my new case :o but it may end up sitting growing spider webs.... spares
