Post by turoa »

Hi,

Will anyone be interested in looking at a post on my hilux and how I built it up etc and what mods it now has done?

Finally got round to getting some finished pics

But heres the story first

I got hold of the lux off nigel having already rolled it and replaced the roof for him. I then did a 4 link in the rear end (after snapping a leaf pack in half) and stuck 37's on. It went ok like this but after only about a month, the motor shit itself.

Image

I then pulled the motor out in anticipation of putting a new one in but it fell through so it sat around like this for a coupla months (because I had bought a trials buggy)

Image

Then after missing the first round of trials (because I had decided to rebuild the truck to a higher quality..... shouldnt have done that) I decided that I wanted to have a go. So in about 3 weeks did a motor swap and steering and a host of other things to get it ready for the next round of trials

It was fun but really uncompetitive and rolled all the time,so after coming home from whakatane looking like this

Image

It sat around for a couple of months. the weekend before whakatane I had taken it for a run and run a bearing so I had replaced it with a motor I had lying around which turned out to be down on power. We had already ordered rebuild parts for it and the motor was lying around on the engine stand so decided to put it back together.

Meanwhile Mike had asked me to be on his team for costa plenty so I thought "why not, ill just whack the motor back in with a winch"

That started the rebuild of it. I decided to move the motor back to clear the winch (ended up around 300mm) so chopped out the firewall to fit. Once that was done I realised what a monumental mistake it was but it was already too late so proceeded. I dont have pics of that part of the build unfortunately. Heres the fibreglass cover my dad and I made though

Image

Meanwhile I had picked up another t-case for $20 so decided to try and build myself a set of duals which turned out awesome. I have around $74 in the setup. I did have a problem where it would pop out of low, but when cleaning up on the weekend I found a bearing retainer I had forgotten to put back on  which is what the problem is. I will upload some pics if anyone is interested.

Then I started on building up the rear to look a bit less rude than it used to.
This is the finished item

Image

Ive written enough tonight so I might post up another night about the winch setup and other bits and peices ive done, but for now heres the finished pics (was really dark for some reason so had to irfan view em). Bank was not steep enough to demonstrate full flexage.
