Patching Tubes

Just wondering if patching a tube works like it does for a bike??

Have chewed through 2 brand new tubes over the last 2 trips and wonder if I could use one of those tubes and patch it to put in my spare tyre??

Don't want to do if it won't work as may at some point need the spare to get me out of trouble.

Or is it better to spend the $45 and get a new tube??

take the tube in to your local tyre shop they should be able to install a patch for less than $10. question is why are you getting so many flats? worn tyres? beads not seating properly? maybe tyres are starting to delaminate from the inside?

tend to think that is the bigger question

yeah, I would be asking yaself, "why the flats"

a common problem when tyre shops install tubes for you is that they dont buff out the little sticker that is inside the tyre and this rubs thru the tube

also dirt etc can rub thru

if you want to fix them yaself, you can buy some patches and glue from a tyre shop and set about the same as you would in your youth on a bicycle tube

Both flats on the same tyre so we originally thought sharp bit in the tyre as the new tube only lasted 30 min or so

Once we pulled the tubes out the holes in the tubes were in different places and lined up with the same shape holes in the tyre.

Must have been a dumb ass and run over somthing sharp

While tyre is off rim, will take into tyre shop and get them to check it out. It was second hand when we purchased it, but still in pretty good shape.

I pull my tubes out and patch them without any probs. Have you got heavy duty tubes or those skinny little condom thin tubes the tyre shops stick in there while your not looking?

Nope use the big boys learnt that lesson a long time ago.

Just talked to Tyre shop and will take tyre in for the them to inspect and he thought $10 to patch up so will give that a try and see how it goes.

$10.00 is a good price if you take into acount the time you would spend getting all the gear to do it yourself it works out a lot cheeper. whilst the tyre is off inspect the rim for any little stray bits that may have stuck to therim as this could also create a wear patch
