Post by bigstu »

got $2000 to spend on rims and tyres have a yn60 surf with 50mm spring lift 50mm body lift 5mge, thinking of
some 35" kl71s and 15x10 -44 offset rims or 2nd hand 36' simex et2? currenty have standard 30" tyres intend on doing many different 4x4 tracks in the south island big variations in surfaces etc and quite a few on road ks although i could use my 30s to do most of my road ks?
any advise would be greatly appreaciated.

whatever you get, stick them on 8" wide rims, rather than 10's helps the bead stay on heaps more, and will give you a bit more diameter as well
'85 Hilux crawler, 3rz, duals, 4.7's, 4.88's, ARB's, 30 spline Longfields, 6 stud SNR4x4 Histeer, Airshocks up front, coiled rear, 40" Iroks.

^^^ what he said. I have never been a fan of 10" rims, although if you are into it, they do make your tyres look a hell of a lot wider.
My tyres are 15.5" wide, and they are on 8" rims.

I have my 37x12.5r16" creepy crawlers on 8" wide rims. The tread surface has got quite a curve to it.Mostly this is due, i'm told, to the very stiff sidewall these tires have.

With 15R creepys i've heard it said that you are ok with 37's but with 35's, due to less sidewall you should stay clear of 8" wide rims.

I'd PERSONALLY hold your money and watch trademe till your fav tire pops up unused or near new. There are always good deals to be had on there if you are willing to wait.

Ive just been offered some 36" super swampers on 15X10
rims waiting to find out what he wants i quite like the look of a surf with 15x10s i may just be being a wanker though til i can afford to do coons wide axle conversion etc i though itd be a cheap way to get a wider stance would fitting internal bead locks later on sort the
issues of then popping of the rims?

I run 35x13.5x15 maxxis mudzillas on my surf on 15x10 rims and had no popping off beads yet. had them for close to two years. The offset is something wicked. tryed on a set of 36 swampers on 8 inch rims before i got the mudzillas and they rubbed real bad on leaf springs at the front. Guessing you could get the centres moved on 8 inch to solve this?

negatory on the dia bro, if you pull a tyre thats recomended for a 10" rim (simex for definate, others im sure would do the same) onto an 8" rim you decrease the dia. ive run my pedes on 10" rims and never had a bead pop, run heavy duty bladder tubes and poo lock the beads.

or fit bolt on wheel spacers, less hassle than trying to get rims altered.

Yeah? that set of 35' simexes I had for mine originally were 12mm or so bigger in dia on a set of 7" rims than on the 10's at the same psi...fawk if I knows

The more vertical the side wall the larger the overall tyre diameter. The more vertical the side wall the more pressure it takes from rut edges etc to push them off the rim. Side wall strength and rim to tread width greatly affects overall handling.

Exactly!
So do you want a set of 35x11.5 Simex on 15x8 with internal beadlocks? I'll sell you mine so I can go to a 16x10 wheel.
