hhhhmmmm i went thru tailings and no bent anything but sills and a tierod wich has been streightend now :P :P :P :P :P :P :P so much for nissans breaking or bending lots :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :P :P :P

Looks like you have recovered from the operation.

Labour weekend 08 I went through Tailings with Mike Holmes and his Nissan and the tuff Winch trucks from Blenheim and he didn't do any damage. We did Tailings in the morning from the south and then Bennetts in the afternoon.

The other members of the club did Tailings the day before and it took them 14 hrs. Flag came with me and with Mike Holmes we drove into Tailings at 10-30 pm at night to try and find them, gave up and returned to Westport around mid night.

A Nissan on that trip lost a window and a snorkel. Carl Townsend with us broke a rear axle on his Hilux.

What has happened to all the Cruisers ?

This clip is our Coast to Coast of Easter 1997. Just 12 years ago and we hardly see any of these trucks on trips today.

That blue and yellow toyota is familar. Him and about 4 others went past me and my mates out Taupo way a few weeks back.

We turned around and got stuck in that little crossing just down the hill from where we where having lunch, got her out in the end :lol:

I may of missed earlier comments Richard... (im a newbie) tow rope person riding out on the bonnet of stuck vehicle, definetly saved wet boots........

It might have saved wet boots but it is still an absolute NO NO to be in the line of rope and that is why John was in a state.

Mikes truck was all fogged up and didn't realize John was still on the bonnet when he towed.
I hope I haven't given a wrong impression. It seemed funny with John yelling out as he got dragged under a branch

For anyone mounting a Supercharger I can't over stress the need to over engineer the mounts.

I made up what I thought was a strong mount out of 10mm plate using the bolt holes for the air conditioner.

It ended up breaking where the Arrow is.

I then braced it to the other side of the motor to remove the flex.

I used an existing 8mm high tensile bolt by the thermostat as a mounting point but since then have snapped 3 bolts off.

Today I have retaped and fitted a 10mm 8.8 bolt so only time will tell.

So the point Im making is over engineer because I know of others with similar troubles

Flag ,myself and Steven opened that track in 2006. Did you have to clear trees ? It doesn't look like it has been used much.

I thought those logs and branches would have been washed away by now.

Tim Evans went in there and didn't get out until the early hours of the morning a couple of years ago.

Did you do No 6 both ways?

only needed to clear 1 tree on that track,no one been through the bog for quite a while.some of the tracks higher up may have been used more recently.took just over 2 hrs but we only hand 2 trucks,winched off each other saved some time.simex's would love those climbs.

only did No6 one way,that took long enough

You May actually be mistaken Richard. :shock: The track this is showing you havent driven before :wink: , it had only one trip on it before Shane and the guys got there, when Me, Flag and Marc opened it up. :lol: It starts off Ratcliffe Ridge and can end up on a corner down by the Walkway, which is where you entered Shane - off the corner past the little dam into the culvert? its not in Marris and Woolets road or Moa Bones vicinity of Seddonville. Its actually a good track in the sense that there are many ways to go and come out of, heaps of differnat skidder tracks all linking up.

The track that we opened up with Flag never got a second run by anyone, and now with all the windfall damage it will be a lot longer yet before we get to have a second run through.

Hi Stephen that ditch filled with sticks looks the same as that other track.

I must do this new track when Im down next. You will have to pull your finger out and get that 1KZ fitted in the lux.

When Jafa is down next we will have to take him through No 6 . I talked to Flag on Sunday and he said they have made a Skid site by the precipice.

The drive to the Copper creek bogs at Haast.

Across the Waita River and then up Coppermine Creek to the tramping hut. The famous bogs track enters the bush a couple of 100 metres from the hut.

Yea Im slowly getting closer to fitting the motor in, have been working on the front suspension first, sorting out all the bits to coil it. Flag and myself went for a look on sunday morning and found they had created a skid site at the start of the Slippery track, before the Precipice track off Radcliffe Ridge, hopefully our tracks dont get changed too much when the log the area. :?

There good bog holes Richard, and a good track to drive on as well. Tim did a vid up from our trip down there last year. It should be floating around this site somewhere "Haast Queens Birthday 08".

Yes I know Vic and Stephanie well, They came on that 1st trip through Tailings and still has the Safari.

Because Vic has more to do with Mt Lyford he does more with the Marlborough club

Its Birthday time for the hilux.

Decided to fit a new ARB locker to the rear diff.

Been gathering the needed parts .New Carrier , Bearings Etc.

What I did learn today is that some carrier pinion bearings are heaps bigger than others. I picked up one that the 100 series cruiser uses.

Here is the difference .Hilux on the left and the 100 series on the right.

Sorry I'm keeping it to carry as a spare. At the moment I am carrying a Limited slip as a spare but need the Crown wheel and pinion off that for my new one which will leave me without a spare.

Richard, I think I have an open 4.5 diff head in the shed if you want it for spares.
