I havent really noticed much difference in driving or it slipping around corners when in 4x2 but then i guess i am use to a mr2 4agze which is mad hairy in the wet.

Mr2's are no more hairy in the wet than any other car. You either can't drive- drive too fast for the conditions ( immature, cant drive)- or just need to stop talking shit.

my hilux was more scary to drive in the wet than my 400+ hp aw11 ....
more the fact i am very conscious of it flipping over were as the mr2 drove like a gutless supercart

ha, my old Sil80, was pretty much undrivable in the wet, the combo of semi slicks on the front and usually not a lot of tread on the rear + 2 way diff + stiff coilovers made it a bump under/oversteer machine. and boost in any gear in the wet = loss of traction ... even 5th :S

had it aquaplane on me and switch directions on the motorway once, not fun, i think i poo`d a bit on that one.

I just put lockrights in the front and rear of my ln65.. finished putting them in and bolting everything back up last night about 10.30 - took it for a quick quick drive around the block... had the axels unlocked and it in 4x4 mode and steering was worse than a tank on tarmac - if the axels were locked i hate to think how hard it would of been... arround a corner i thought it was going to throw me in too a lamp post.. u gotta be extra careful with that right foot now!

back in 2x4 mode and it drives nicely.. u get the odd buck from the rear and u cant be as heavy or quick on the gas during quick gear changes - but lets be honest you dont buy lockers for driving the car on the road.

Your post says you went for a drive, on tarmac, in 4x4, with the hubs out/unlocked??

Is that correct and what you meant to say (benefit of the doubt here)

You then go on to say that in 2X4 it was ok apart from some clicks and clunks (which is normal for a lockright).

My point is that if you had your hub's unlocked, as you said they were, the front locker wouldn't have been doing anything, so there would have been no handeling/steering difference between having your truck in 4x4 or 2x4, as the front axle wasn't connected to the wheels, as the hubs were unlocked.

If there definately was a difference in handeling, your free wheeling hubs aren't working fella!!!!!!!

Nicely spotted! - I cocked up right royally - must of been all the LPG fumes from the heater that night - one hub was locked and the other hub was unlocked - hence the crazy surges from side to side in 4x4 mode!... didnt figure it out until i saw the hubs in day time ( manual hubs) - made a huge difference having the hubs unlocked!

LOL yea that makes peeeerfect sense eh "400hp" but still "gutless" in a car that weighs around 1250kg hahahahahahahahaha dude stick to the mud because if your aw11 was gutless with 400hp there is something very very wrong happening... maybe you needed to put it in drive or something

Well I dunno about you guys but I have found mid engined rear wheel & relatively high horse powered & torqued sports cars way way way more loose in the rear than my guttless (but locked diff) hilux....

I guess you could be trying to race in a body lifted 4x4 but i think doing that would be a wee bit silly... horses for courses people

Yes waynes Mr2 was fast. I rode in it. It was running a built 3sgte from an SW20 mr2 (newer shape car) with a huge turbo and MOTEC ecu.

Don't make assumptions about his hilux either.

Yea fair enough... didnt mean to put anyones nose out of joint.

Not making assumptions merely posting from my perspective and I still stick by it.

MR2 - when wet = lose in the rear (but fun until it all goes wrong)
Hilux with locked rear diff in the wet = no where as lose as the MR2... in fact not much difference besides "clunk / knock" noise from how it was stock

Ive got no idea on what HP my lux is but it wouldnt be much its a 2.8 non turbo diesel - mind you the 4agze out of the aw11 only puts out 145hp which isnt alot. The supercharger adds some much needed torque though. The 20valve puts out around 165hp but loses torque - was toying with the idea of bolting in a 20v in (from the supercharged levins) - but in all honesty i cant be farked - now planning on tidying up the aw11 and flicking it and putting that money in too a caravan but anyway...

I guess if I had a worked V8 in the lux (ie more grunt) then yeah I would expect to notice the difference from the locked rear diff - but you dont need a rocket scientist degree to figure that one out. Anything that you drop 3-4times the hp in is going to drive alot different to how it was stock standard.
