Hello from Coromandel

Just signed up and thought to say gidday
I own a 97gq Nissan Safari, 4.2 diesel non turbo, LWB lowroof, manual
It is in ex cond and low km so not looking to beat it up too much at this stage but not be too soft on it either.
Have been reading mags such as Aus4wd action and Nz4wd and viewing forums for a while so got a few ideas on mods but always open to more advise.
Doing a South island tour feb, march 2010 with family and jayco camper , fly rods,so being set up for this first priority.
Have just purchased 2nd hand winch bar, snorkle, and 3" lift kit on the way.Also made my own safari style alloy roofrack which I have removed for a few mods.
Still need to make or buy cargo barrier and rear drawers. Running on 16"kumho road venture tyres but will change to more aggressive tyre at some stage @33". See alot of guys go for turbo once they add weight and bigger tyres so may have to look into this, several pay checks away for that though.
I am a marine engineer currently at sea on coastal ship,other interests include fishing, skiing and enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends. Looking forward sharing info, ideas and just having a yarn with likeminded people. Good to also meet up for adventures,

I am based in Coromandel Town so fairly handy to kayak fishing spots.
Do a bit myself, viking fisherman model, no rocket launcher though, normally travel light with just 1 softbait rig. Try me next time you come down this way. New to this forum thing so not sure how personal message thing works though.
The mods Im doing to roofrack are in order to improve design for carrying Kayaks, craypots, fishing gear, 4 mountain bikes, portable waste water tank and a kitchen sink. Might need turbo sooner than I think.

hi there have a swb safari with 33's , if your touring with a trailer a turbo will be a great help, amazing how much speed you lose soon as you hit a hill, requires prethought to keep speed up or hit at above the speed limit to get over at a decent clip,

Thanks Coxsy, yeh been doing a bit of towing already and managing ok but will have more weight and one more passeger for south island trip.
A bit of a coincidence I have just looked at your lift kit add, not to buy but just being nosey,Just spending some time finding my way, how did spacers work, I was going to go that way but sag would have been same. Gone for complete kit
80mm cobra springs
Raw shocks and steering damper
Castor correction bushes and extended brake lines.

hi the spacers worked fine a bit of driveline vib at 90kph, you would be happier pulling one front radius arm off at at time and get it modded before the next one, i pulled both was not my best time under the safari putting them back in,haven't done brake lines replacement yet they seem to be fine, the diff breather line was a bit stressed by the lift,a swb wants to pivet on the axle stands on the chassis rails when i was getting springs out and new ones should of grapped a tressle from work to hold the dam thing in the air not axle stands, next time!

no mate, just move the hose around a bit they serve a purpose venting the diff

Yeh got that thanks coxsy, I misread your message and thought you were refering to diff breather while changing springs. The bloke Im getting suspension from run through the job over the phone and instructed to disconnect diff breather for job, definately will reconnect after. He can do whole job in a few hours, nothing like practise I suppose.
Ship is currently in Auckland where wagon is, so was able to fit bullbar last night
