At the moment my truck has been waiting 2 days for parts for the rear diff before it can go anywhere. It's a bit frustrating. Shims is what's needed. And apparently they are like hens teeth to find.

Anyone got any??

If you are going to keep your truck it would probably pay to order and buy a complete set from toyota. When I bought my set it was the only one left at the mains Toyota parts warehouse for the country.

Toyota branches don't carry them in stock anymore since the later stuff has used collapsible spacers

I think there are 10 different size shims available but you need all of them to set a diff up properly.

I've been told if I can pick some up via ebay. I'm going to look into that but it would be way easier to find some locally of course.

Just in time for the weekend. But thanks 91Rangie/wopass for the help.

I've been organizing a birthday party for me and me bro's 45th today for tomorrow nite.
Was thinking of talking to my bro about having a tug of war between my truck and anything else that wants to have a go. I recon it would be a laugh! But i don't think bro will want his paddock torn up by 4X4's.

Nah the Holden stays home. Now I have a new crown n pinon in the rear of the cruiser I wanna give that shit.
That last crown n pinon was the second set to go in the rear since the repower. But both weren't new. This third set is.

They look ok I recon. They certainly handle way better tho I prefer the Wranger tire over the Kumo. The turning circle has improved heaps! YES!

Now the task of widening the guards.
I thought rather than cutting the front guards up and welding a spacers in I'd go with beefy looking bars going the length of the truck instead. That way i won't have to worry about banks ripping up my flared guards.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Yep do the bars all the way down the truck, flares only last the first trip out and can damage the body work when they rip out. You can stick bits of flare between the guards and bars to help stop all the shit that gets throwen up the side of your truck (or into it with no roof on )

The new rims are on. I've gained 2 inches each side. 4 inches gained in it's track, cool.
The side bars are still being dreamed/thought up. I've got Rick at 4WD Accessories and Hayden at HRN Custom Fabrication and Engineering helping out.

I'm hoping that when the job is done it'll be strong enough to save the body from any damage. Well, that's the plan.

If anyone comes across any pix of a 40 with the same or similar setup that I'm after? I'd be grateful if you'd add them to the thread.

I agree with ya. Lots of side bars look crap.

I wanted to go with fabricated front guards to give me more clearance and also be strong enough to stand on. Same for the rear.
Looks are important for sure, Rick and Hayden know that but it's got to be practicable, that comes first.

I've looked on the Net and tried to find something close to what I'm after, but I've found nothing.

So if you're a 40 fan and think you've come across something close to what I'm after post away.

my bars were for slamming into banks, leaning up against trees to make corners easier, etc etc etc...............



but if you just want them to protect the body from shopping trolley damage, then maybe tube fenders would be more your style

I get your point skid.
I'm sure your setup worked fine.
But I'm after something different more chunky and tough. Front guards that will take all 110kg of me and I want em higher than stock. To be able to put all my weight on the rear flares would be cool. I'd like to use thick alloy tread plate on the front guards. The rear flares will be built into the body while the front guards will be part of the chassis. I gotta a few wants. It's just, is it pos and will it look cool while being totally practicable at the same time.

That's the one wopass.
It's just I want a guard higher and stronger than stock.
Might mean I get a guard made up with a side bar built next to it.

it'll mean a totally new look.

Right now to drive it feels like a different truck. Feels real different when it steps out, not so twitchy, a little easier to handle. I'm looking forward to the next trip up to nelson.

Had the cruiser at HRN Engineering today.
Both Rick from 4WD Acc and Hayden were sussing out a plan for these side bars and new front guards. After ideas being bounced around we think we got something really cool and STRONG to add to me 40.

Things will start happening in the next couple of weeks. Hayden's got my cruiser from next week on till the jobs done.
Hopefully the bars will be finished before the 17th of next month. I've got a trip planned i'm really looking forward to. The truck will need all the protection it can get for that.
