Are club class trucks going to be running the same tracks as the challenge class trucks like at Whangarei?

They will be running some of the tracks that the challenge trucks do but we will be taking out any high speed parts and sidlings and where the challenge trucks do 30mtr plus winches through swamps etc we will send the club class across a different way ie same swamp just a shorter winch ..steve

have to aggree there, was good to have the experience to watch and learn from. having said that i do think some of the challenge guys were getting a bit annoyed at how long it took some of us (me included) club class guys to do stages  slowly getting the hang of it

I think it was a bit on the chin for challenge class to have to have a 6 point cage, harnesses, and battery isolators, ect, ect

And then have the clubmans run on the same tracks with less safety gear.

I didnt see anyone in our group having any issues with how long the clubmans took, after all they had paid just as much to race.

Hi Ben ,Quite frankly if i had heard any challenge guys saying that they would of been told to Fu#k off" the sport doesnt need that sort of thing .we are all out there to have some fun doing something we enjoy ,re the mixing of classes to me its a safety thing and track setting ,in challenge class we all must be certified for all mods have REg /Wof and 6 point cage ,where as in club class up untill recently you didnt even need a roll cage .as an event organizer i would find it difficult to explain to mr plod why i let trucks do stages where we demand higher safety standard from others if it turned to sh#t ,also quite frankly the tracks set for challenge class are normally a lot faster and harder that are set for club class i dont want to put trucks through stages where i know half of them will dnf the stage that sort of thing does nobody any good ,while there are quite a few really good trucks out there we also have to cater for the standard road going truck on 32"s as this is why the club class was started .the last thing i want is for this to turn into a us/them thing why not come along to the next 4x4 challenges meeting on the 28th of this month and give us your ideas ..cheers steve

We had a great time and really enjoyed the northland tracks, no complaints from us about clubies doing the same tracks, just means we could go faster and had less chance of killing ourselves.
There are some links on our home page to parts of the 4WDTV coverage of the Norwest winch challenge on youtube (with 4WDTV permission of course)

The future plans will see a variations of what we did this year in that a lot of the tracks will be the same but we will have some extra much tougher tracks that the challenge class will do first. This will mean that Saturday in particular will become an endurance event for the Challenge class after we have put them through some real gut busters to start with.
So I think we got a couple of things wrong this year, but in general the mixing of the classes will stay! The Club class is very quickly becoming vital to the financial success of an event so the Challenge class can either pay 2 or 3 times the entry or they can pull their heads in! (and I may have already pointed this out to a couple of them)
The extra safety required in Challenge class is more about the potential of the vehicles to go much faster on the same tracks. But we also need to ensure that the tracks are set at the relevant level and lower safety spec of the Club class shouldn't restrict how we set tracks for Challenge class.
As some of you may or may not remember, on the Sunday before the event we had the original site we were going to use taken away from us. We had planned, marked and drawn maps of most of the stages and most of these had variations for the 2 classes. However when we ended up with 5 days to reset everything on the new site, the reality is we just didn't have time.
So while the constructive criticism is vital to the continual improvement of the sport, you also need to be aware of the limitations that are placed on organisers. Also we are sorting out the practicalities of the 2 classes as we go. We have 2 (or maybe 3) events to go this year with both classes and I think you will find every event will learn from the previous and get better. That is why the organisers get together, discuss things and help each other out. If we don't then we'll just perpetuate each others mistakes.

was just looking over the results from the northland challenge and if we had carried on how we started (stage 3) we would have done really well  was 3rd fastest for the stage overall  should have just kept driving like that eh
